Hey, so I was reading the Book of Mormon as I have been challenged to a race. And I have only red 5 chapters in the whole week. Eeep I am going to lose, but anyway, I got to the part where Nephi is prompted by the spirit to kill Laben. I have been taught about this many times but part of me couldn't help but wonder if the voices in Nephi's head were not necisarily of the voice of God, and I hate to say it incase I am being silly here but it almost sounded as though he was schizophrenic. He sure did justify his actions. In the Book of Mormon there is a lot on secret combinations, (killing in the name of God, or Terrorism). And I couldn't help but feel this is the case. I am sure Nephi could have merely gotten Laben more drunk and fooled him without actually killing him.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share my thoughts.
Pirate.

Or simply slipped him a mickey. That way, it would not have started out with Nephi being forced by God to break one of his commandments. Perhaps he should not have coveted the sword as well.

Yeah, Nephi should've just stolen Laban's clothes and left him there. That way, Zoram wouldn't have noticed all the blood all over his clothes and called for the guard. Oh wait, oops. . .
(By the way, I gave my fork a noodle scarf for Christmas, too!)

Lol. haha that is so true. Or perhaps gave him sleeping pills and left him to wake up naked lol now that would have been funny, how many people these days have woken up on a bench naked somewhere having drunk?

...so having established that Nephi being schizophrenic was more likely than Nephi communing with an omnipotent creator who could have just given Laban an aneurism rather than set Nephi up for committing an unforgiveable sin; how do you explain the involvement of an angel, God, the Son of God, and assorted resurrected and translated beings being involved in unearthing the scratchings of a lunatic.
On the other hand, if God really did talk to Nephi, why does he need a mortal to do his dirty work for him. What happened to 'vengence is mine'? Would God really command someone to sin for him? Is not one test of 'instruction from God as opposed to trickery by Satan' supposed to be the consistency of the instruction with doctrinal principles? Should not Nephi have responded with "get thee behind me, Satan!" when told to kill a defenceless unconscious man. He could have just stolen the drunk guy's clothes afterall.
