I saw Australia last night, starring Hugh Jackman (the sexiest man alive) and Nicole Kidman. Totally wonderful film, even if it was almost 3 hours long.

But... at the end of the movie, they run a few screens with information about the basic premise of the movie: the Lost Generations of what is referred to as the Creamies... children born to aboriginal and white mixed parents. One of the screens is that the Australian government formally apologized to those that they had harmed through their policies about aboriginals.

At the time, I was struck by the integrity of those who made that formal apology. And once again struck by the lack of apology forthcoming from my church regarding practices and policies that we have followed in the past (thinking: the taking Native children off the reservation program, the whole MMM thing, blacks being descendants of Cain, etc).

Good job, Australia.

And another *sigh* for the lack of integrity exhibited by the leaders of God's own church.

The apology was offered by Kevin Rudd, the Labor prime minister, about 40 years late. Party politics here. But at least it eventually came.

The real problem with offering an apology here, Harm, I'm sure you will realise, is that they will have to admit that some former leaders received false revelations. Governments don't have to protect that clause, because they aren't run "by revelation".

Yes, I agree... but that doesn't mean I have to give up hope that an individual's integrity might Trump church policy, just once.

Maybe in the next generation.

I'd like to hear your comments, after you see it. And I'd like to know how historically accurate it is.

Give us a mild spoiler or two, harmony: What's the plot of the movie (was the "creamies" theme the main one or a side one), and what were those ever-so-brief warplane scenes about?

I didn't realize this film was out. That's definitely on my "to do" list, along with seeing the new Bond film, which I haven't had time to do yet.

I'm traveling this weekend, so I guess it will have to be next weekend. Too bad there aren't any MDB girls near Greensboro, NC. We could have a drool over hot guys movie night!

How about the ignorance of Brigham Young in his view of African Americans, and how he was "speaking as a man" rather than as a prophet?

What to apologize for regarding MMM? Are you serious? The shedding of innocent blood in the rationale of fear and ignorance doesn't deserve apologies?

I thought the church finally caved and apologized for MMM last year. They still need to apologize for pretending their opinions preached over the pulpit are the word of god. Even apologists admit the leaders are just men with opinions.
