Re: Maklelan: MAD's Version of Mark Hofmann?
My god, Exu, can whip Jesus sidewise with one arm tied behind his back. And with Exu and the Orixas there is no sin to be saved from and death is just a step between lives.
Tell me again why the Bible is historical. I need another good laugh.

Servant wrote:So one wonders, mak, why you are making a career of studying the Bible if you consider it to be packed full of myths.
Because I find it fascinating.
Servant wrote:Although, my friend, you still haven't touched upon the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
And I'm not going to.
Servant wrote:That will always stand as the big question mark for you and the rest of those posting here (most seem to be agnostics). If He did overcome death, then the Christian stands on solid ground affirming God's Word. If He did not, then Paul's words are true:
1 Cor. 15: . 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith doesn’t mean anything. Your sins have not been forgiven. 18 Those who have died believing in Christ are also lost.
Have you read Bonhoeffer - I once suggested that you do. He said:
"The Cross is not the terrible end of a pious happy life. Instead, it stands at the beginning of community with Jesus Christ. Whenever Christ calls us, his call leads us to death."
You see, mak, it's in willingness to set ourselves aside, to actually die to ourselves, where we really find life. I hope you do some day.
If you want me to believe you have any concern whatsoever for me then start honestly addressing my concerns with your arguments.
Also, I'd like you to remove my last name from your posts as well. My name is not a secret, but we take seriously on this website one's right to have their identity represented as they wish.

Where is your last name in my posts? Please link. Mak, why would you want a "nut job" like me to address any of your concerns, since you have such a low opinion of me? Suffice to say, that you really need to read Dietrich Bonhoeffer. He got his doctorate when he was 21 - you have to admire his brilliance. I really believe that he can speak to you on a level that you'll appreciate. Hopefully you'll consider reading his works. They are a little "heady," but I'm sure you'll have no problem understanding him. Well, see you back on CARM, mak, I'm sure.

Servant wrote:Apparently your claim that "all Mormons" consider the Bible to be the Word of God is simply untrue - since this forum has members at least that obviously do not. Your argument isn't with me then, its with your Mormon friends here.
Apparently you can't read. The example was given as an example as to why your argument was vacuous.

So Steel, did you become an atheist or agnostic, etc., when you left Mormonism? How sad.

So, you believe that Jesus is a "cosmic zombie." I've seen that term used of Our Lord before - do you think such profanity shocks me. No, Steel, it is simply something I encounter quite often among those who not only don't believe, they are angry at God. Why are you so angry?

I'm not angry. Exu and I are cool.

My name is still in the following two posts:

Thank you for removing my name.

So the fallacies and errors of your accusations can be exposed, rather than hidden behind your evasions, such as your evasion of Steelhead's point about your misunderstanding of his use of the example.

Already have.

Apart from my immense respect for the man (for what he did during WWII, not for his age at the completion of his doctorate), I don't find anything particularly relevant to me about his theology.

Only to be banned immediately, no doubt, for talking about the Bible in a thread about how Mormonism doesn't meet someone's biblical standard.

I think everything is removed, and you have to understand that you used to use that handle on CARM, so I'm used to addressing you in that way. If you find anything else, let me know. I don't want to abuse the rules.
I hope you will come back, mak. But for discussion not instruction. I'm not really the terribly ignorant fundie that you think I am. I admire John Stott, for instance, and you might find him interesting. Bonhoeffer was certainly not a fundie at all, and I really believe his theology (although sometimes rather incomprehensible) addresses some of the problems modern men, especially, might have.
Mak, you are young and time will moderate you, I'm sure. As you grow older, there is a mellowness that sets in. Christians aren't the big meanies you believe they are - and CARM isn't the only place you can discuss your beliefs with evangelicals. There are a lot of Academic sites (CARM is not academic) that you might want to look into, like Anglican Forums for instance. Or Virtueonline, where you can add comments on theological issues. And there's always The Puritan Board (http://www.puritanboard.com/content/) - Reformed. I'm afraid that they're more Calvinistic than me, however.
