Jesus Who?

The MoTab has a new CD out just in time for Joseph Smith's birthday: "Praise to the Man."

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/1,51 ... 39,00.html

This is my favorite quote:

President Monson praised the efforts of the choir for "utilizing their God-given skills. You never know how many hearts have been touched and lives have been changed," he said.

He reminisced about serving as a mission president in Toronto, "the only area outside his own, where Joseph Smith taught." He also noted that he's always appreciated the fact that Joseph Smith was born in the season in which we celebrate the birth of Christ. "I think very little happens by coincidence," he said. And at this season, he's happy that our thoughts can be drawn to Joseph Smith. "He gave us everything."

As my exmo colleague just said, "That is very disturbing."

Added Sheri L. Dew:

This is the 16th CD the choir has done since establishing its own recording label, noted Sheri L. Dew, president and CEO of Deseret Book, . . . "Since then we've sold around 2 million albums. But the choir has never done one more meaningful for the members of the church. This is magnificent."

Apparently, all the songs about Jesus and Heavenly Father are less "meaningful" to average church members.

It's as if Jesus had been some minor prelude to the prophet's glorious mission. Maybe it's just my apostate disposition, but this kind of near-worship bothers me.

Gag me with a spoon.

This is the kind of hero worship that exists because The Brethren encourage it!

While I understand the place Joseph Smith has in LDS history and even in its truth claims this is the type of stiff that causes others to question our Christianity.

I think putting the hymns together about the restoration is a fine thing. But some of the comments are a bit much.

You are a master of understatement, Jason.

If you decide to purchase "Praise to the Man", you may want to go to the following linked offering also. It may be a bit more to your liking. This CD and an accompanying DVD were just released for the Christmas season along with "Praise to the Man".

Enjoy the Christmas season via the MO TAB's!

Ever heard of Mormons getting together for a Joseph Smith birthday party on Dec 23rd? I've heard this happens. It sucks to have your birthday so close to Christmas. Maybe Mormons should pick another time of year to celebrate Joseph Smith's birthday, since it's kind of hard to move Christmas.

Well, Jesus wasn't really born on December 25th anyway, so whatsthebigdeal?

All the spiritual blessings I currently enjoy are directly or indirectly linked to Joseph Smith. If a word existed between Praise and Worship, then that is how I feel about Joseph Smith the Prophet.

I will be sure to illegally download the MoTab torrent from Isohunt.com

Big UP!
