Homosexual Marriage and Views on Marriage

I'm just brainstorming here, so, no one get too uppity.
A few ex-Mormons I've encountered on this board think that pre-marital sex is a sin. Or even if they don't label it a sin they still think it's just taboo or shouldn't be done. Ever. Or it's "ewww".
Now, we swap over to homosexual rights and there is a lot of emphasis on homosexuals having the ability to marry.
Do those that want homosexuals to have the ability to marry maybe have some left over primitive knee jerk to sexual anything outside of marriage which is why you are so eager for them to be able to tie the knot?
Now, I think that homosexuals should have the right to marry if they wish. I also think they can just live together or do whatever the hell they want. I'm not disgusted by the idea of teen homosexual sex or experimentation.
Just thinking about some of the thought processes I see here and trying to sort them out....
...~I edited to put "a few" because there really aren't that many posters here and a few have maybe warped my perception of how common this is~

Not this exmo.
by the way, you should become aware of how some Mormons view pre-marital sex, or fornication. The following story comes from former member of the First Presidency, Marion G. Romney:
Marion G. Romney reported that his father said the following to him just as he was boarding the train to go on a mission:
My son, you are going a long way from home. Your mother and I, and your brothers and sisters, will be with you constantly in our thoughts and prayers; we shall rejoice with you in your successes, and we shall sorrow with you in your disappointments. When you are released and return, we shall be glad to greet you and welcome you back into the family circle. But remember this, my son: we would rather come to this station and take your body off the train in a casket than to have you come home unclean, having lost your virtue.

Hi Moniker, :)
Do you mean they used to think it was a sin? Most of the exMo's I've encountered have a more liberal attitude on pre marital sex after losing their faith.

I've heard a lot of them say that, yet, some of their actions speak otherwise.
Seven, I edited my OP to put a "few". I wrote "a lot" and I don't know if that is really that accurate.

Hi Moniker,
I'm not an ex-mo, but I am an ex-evangelical (and of course the baggage is much the same), so I feel safe weighing in here. I think I've gotten over the attitude that pre-marital sex is bad or "eww", but I can still appreciate the advantages of the evangelical and Mormon approaches to sexual ethics. It's easy for people to get hurt or taken advantage of if they are too free with their sexuality or too fast and loose with commitment. I am also one who still believes that the custom of marriage provides much-needed structure and stability to a sometimes borderline-nihilistic society. I don't intend to engage in any wanton sexual conduct in the near future, and would probably advise most of my friends-- especially the emotionally fragile ones-- to exercise the same caution. But by no means do I think less of someone who is more libertine than I.
Best,
-Chris

I'm sure that ex-Mormons who are in favor of gay marriage are in favor of it for precisely the same reasons you are; not for some alternate, hidden reason.

Wow. I wish I could have written that because you take out the being an evangelical part and those are my sentiments exactly!

Great minds...

(Sorry, Shades: I've been itching for an excuse to use that smiley!)

Well, I was just wondering why a few seemed so enlightened to view one "alternative" lifestyle in a certain way and yet, have gasps with another.

Perhaps you could identify the "few" posters you are talking about here?
I believe consenting adults should be able to do whatever they feel comfortable doing. Be it straight, gay, polygamy, S&M, incest, hamsters, whatever.
I think minors need to have boundaries and rules until they are capable of making more rational decisions.
