the latest buzz on the Blacks

My husband came home from work last week with the latest buzz on why Blacks were denied the priesthood for so long: it was society's fault. Society back then (1830's) wasn't ready to accept a church where people with black skin were allowed to join as equal members with those with white skin.
No word yet on why it took over 100 years after the Civil War for that to change, or why women are still denied the priesthood.
More on this as updates occur.

Society wasn't ready to accept God commanded adultery either - and after 150 years it still isn't ready.
This is a lame argument.
#1 Not all of society were bigoted racists - perhaps not even the majority of it. The civil war was fought primarily over states rights, but in reality, if the country's founding fathers had had a few additional votes there would not have even been the question of slavery that led up to it.
#2 Since when did the Mormon God take a poll and ask for consensus & permission from the unchosen? Never. Unless you count being forced to pull the practice of Mormon adultery.

I have heard this theory before. Because society and we as a people were not ready to accept blacks as full fledged members of society it would have hurt the growth of the Church.
My come back has been similar to TDs comments and that is one would think God would tell his prophets to be on the cutting edge of society rather than the back end. Yet I have a good friend that is convinced that God will not interfere with things like this and if cultural norms prevent things like blacks having the priesthood God will stay his hand till the time is right.

This is an old theory. Although I don't think it's made its way throught the correlation committee yet.

When you get your understanding of the mind and will of God from the latest discussion around the water cooler this is the kind of stunning insight you can expect.

Of course this is a lame argument. That's the point of my post. It's lame, it's still out there, and the guy who was telling my husband this is a bishop in a neighboring stake.

This kind of idiot excuse is so far afield from the strong statements of Gods Prophet, Brigham Young and even Joseph Fieldings 'darkies are nice people' and Mark E. Peterson's loathsome excuses as to be laughable.
Why can't these fools just quote the 'inspired words of the Prophets' and let it lie?

If one were to believe God was staying his hand (Which I do not) then that would seem to also imply that the policy was the leaders of the Church and not God's. That would be in direct conflict of the official Church's position that it was God's policy he revealed to the Prophet and that it was God's revelation to a Prophet that he had changed his policy.
