It's a bit pretentious, but I don't give a damn.
I'm going to use the forum to put up personal thoughts regarding biblical scholarship/the Book of Mormon/ and LDS theology.
By tomorrow I should have a few audio files up on Book of Mormon and Book of Abraham discussions held with LDS students at Wellesley College and Harvard University. I also plan on posting audio files regarding the book of Isaiah, just in case anyone is interested.
Thought some friends here at Mormondiscussions would like to know.
best,

I don't give a damn either.
I think it would be morally right to lie about your religion to edit the article favorably.

Sounds boring.
I gots a blog, too: http://musingsofalickedcupcake.blogspot.com/.
I blog about my cats and my kids and my boobs and my Sexi Mexi. Oh, and there's a bit about Mormonism there, too.
It's unpretentious and dorky, but at least it ain't boring.
I'll be sure to check out your site, davidbokovoy.

Were the LDS students familiar with any of the controversies surrounding the Book of Mormon or the Book of Abraham?

I'm sure it will be interesting. I'm not one for audio files though.
Are you brave enough to put up any doubts you may have, as well as your convictions? Which brings up the question of if the "discussions" were with like-minded individuals, or with individuals who knew some of the controversies and were able to present a different perspective?

(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

I appreciated this bit of candor from David:
I look forward to reading more. Thanks, David.David Bokovoy wrote:I have been trained as a critical Bible scholar and attempt to exist intellectually between the two realms of academic and believer. I admit that this is not an easy position to maintain. At times I find myself operating more or less successfully between the two extremes. As a critical biblical scholar, I cannot deny that the Book of Mormon features a variety of markers that would lead me, via my academic training, to deny its ancient authenticity.

Hello Shades,
Yes. Discussions were held with both undergraduate and graduate LDS students. However, any audio files that I post will most likely only address the issue of connections between the Book of Mormon and the Hebrew Bible without a discussion of Book of Mormon historicity and/or lack thereof.
Via the printed posts, I will address problems that critical biblical scholarship presents with regards to the Book of Mormon's claims for ancient authenticity including links to articles written by David Wright and others.

Hello Harmony,
Thanks for your interest in visiting the site. I'm more than willing to discuss both doubts and convictions.

Re: davidbokovoy.com
Can you please write two essays about the following:
Why Isaiah 48 is in the Book of Mormon when the plates left around 600 bce but Isaiah 48 was not likely written until around 520 BCE. I think Isaiah 45 talks about Cyrus.
Can you address why in the book of moses it says "And Satan said unto Cain: Swear unto me by thy throat, and if thou tell it thou shalt die" This sounds very familiar to me. Why is it not Jesus saying these things.
