On a thread over the upcoming Big Love temple episode, at that other board, Peterson is rabid in defending the directed orders of the LDS Church's latest press release.

In a response to poster Analytics, Peterson shows the complete ignorance and/or blindness of his own faith and agenda.

Here is the exchange:

"It isn't obvious to me that such an artist has the moral obligation to defer to Mormon sensibilities when he attempts to create a realistic depiction of Mormons."

Peterson:
"Decent, civil people respect strong religious sensibilities."


Someone may want to remind the ol Provo chap of the lack of respect his church displays everytime it decides to proxy baptise non-members into their belief system. Seems this church "says" it will stop such practice only when called to do so through the press.

There is an obvious difference between teaching a prospective convert the doctrine and view of a religion and allowing that person to make a free will choice to follow and the blatant portrayal of a religions most sacred ceremony to the public and that while knowing that the adherents find such disclosure of their ceremony to the public highly offensive.

Almost all religions seek converts. There is nothing disrespectful at all about that. Persons are free to listen and chose.

If proxy baptism is not/was not disrespectful, perhaps you or Peterson could explain why the LDS church agreed to stop performing them in their 1995 agreement?

If answering the above question proves too difficult, I could take the Robert Millet approach and ask a question you feel more comfortable addressing. Just let me know what the question should be! [In the context of " respecting religious sensibilities" of course.]

I mean you guys are last on the board at nite, first on in the morning and spend most of the day here. So I don't think it should be a "scheduling problem"!

Believe me, I know Jews. Half of my family is Jewish. These people are so unreasonable. The CoJCoLDS tried over and over again to get it into their thick skulls that baptizing their incinerated grandparents into an American Christian sect was an act of love, caring and respect. But they wilfully refused to get the point. So the church had to give up on them. Jews just don't listen to logic. That's why their contribution, as a people, to science and philosophy has been so nugatory.

So I guess if Wiccans held a ceremony over your dead grandmother’s grave for reasons they felt were important and beneficial to the her.. you would be ok with that?

As for Wiccan ceremonies over my grandmother's grave, I would have a problem with that. If they were very flamboyant. But only because I don't think it appropriate to do such things over people's graves. I favor a certain decorum in cemeteries. Relatively quiet and non-demonstrative Wiccan prayers at my grandmother's grave? I'm fine with that.

Wiccan ceremonies for my dead grandmother in general? No problem. Buddhist prayer wheels spinning for my dead grandmother? No problem. Catholic prayers or masses for my dead grandmother? No problem. Candles burning for my dead grandmother? No problem.

Well you are not the one to decide what is appropriate – Any more than Jews were able to provide input. Its just between the Wiccans and Grandma..
