In musing about the authorship of various scriptures, this morning in church it struck me that even though the source is tainted by all sorts of shenanigans, whoever wrote the Book of Mormon, the Book of Abraham, the Book of Moses had a real talent, a very real way with words. There are some amazing passages contained therein. To not claim those words as their own shows some interesting aspects of their character.
Passages like "O, that I were an angel, and could have the wish of mine heart" rank very high in my opinion. Why wouldn't the author want to claim it?

Because the author would have far, far MORE credibility by claiming that he had channeled the mind of God, or had translated by the gift and power of God, than if he just claimed that he wrote them himself.

Except most people know he wrote it himself. Or themselves. Why give credit to God?
