The Mormondiscussions.com Gulag: A Farewell to Arms

I find this ridiculous. That Shades does not consider seriously threatening other posters with legal action a bannable offense is ludicrous. If it counts as a victory, eat it up GoodK. I'm leaving this cesspool too. I invite all other fair-minded people to join me.

I expect that this Mormon discussion board will soon lack for any Mormons if this level of harassment is tolerated over PARODIES. Bye.

Well good, and all for the best. Even I'll admit that, after leaving "for good" myself the last time, I just can't resist coming back to "kick the ant hill" now and then. No actual discussion mind you, just stirring the pot and and scraping my fingernails across the blackboard every few weeks or so. I'll admit its tempting.

However, what is to be expected here? This board, and other boards or email lists much like it (RFM of course, comes to mind), is an attractant for individuals exactly and precisely like Goodk (or Poketator, or PP, or Nortinski, or Schmo, or Merc, or Harmony, or Scratch etc., etc.), and individuals such as the above are going to nest in places like this for the precise reason that they find it both comfortable and supportive.

I've long suspected that Goodk's claims regarding the "Mormon Gulag" are little more than a deeply mendacious, mean spirited fabrication (or at best, a fevered and self serving exaggeration with some real but probably isolated and limited grain of truth) born of his own impotent rage against the Church, itself the offspring of who knows what personal torments. The ranch is promoted on BYU TV all the time, and indeed, during Conference, and there seems nothing untoward about it. Indeed, the very idea of the Church supporting such an institution for years while such behavior was known to have been underway is rather ludicrous on its face, which makes the lack of any legal action or public exposing of the claimed behavior (claimed to have been going on for many years now) in all these intervening years deeply suspect. Goodk seems the lone crusader for truth and justice here, which, again, given the claims, raises those proverbial red flags yet again.

Goodk's own claims, when this thing began in a thread in which I posted, and was initially somewhat sympathetic, giving at least a little benefit of the doubt on the subject, were that the abuse was widely known, both at the ranch and by Church leaders associated with it. No one could have missed it, as it was overt and continual.

Yet, the longer this has gone on, and now with a threatened lawsuit against Daniel (the merits of which would appear to be appreciably zero), and with, as William has just pointed out here, an utter dearth of any actual facts or evidence that GoodK's claims regarding it are anything other then his own tortured fantasies, this forum has now degenerated to the point that I have long foreseen.

That is: an echo chamber for bitter, bigoted, and sometimes thuggish ranting critics of the Church for whom the only proper response can ultimately be...

Move along, nothing to see here.

Not only is he a cowardly little twit, but I have yet to see any of his tales of the alleged "Gulag" actually substantiated by credible evidence. I won't be surprised if, in the final analysis, we find out that PsychoK crafted a good portion of his tales of horror from little more than his fecund imagination and a twisted compulsion to exact revenge from his perceived oppressors.

This is a very succinct summing up my perceptions above, in far fewer words.

This board is hardly a monolith, Droop. There are posters on both sides of any claim regardless of affiliation, skeptics of unsubstantiated claims, people who express their opinions contrary to your claims. That you don't see anyone else but the 2 ends of the scale says a lot more about your understanding and a whole lot less about ours.

Next time I'm in the temple, I'll put your name on the prayer rolls. You obviously haven't been able to attend for a while.

It is, essentially, once myself, Nehor, DCP and perhaps two or three others are gone, an echo chamber, in very deed.

This is quite interesting, as you are aware, better than anyone else here, that you have no business being in Temple at all.

Try this, yet again Harmony, with someone you can fool.
