I think they are doing away with excommunication - they don't know the damage they do in the short and long run of a persons life.

Now back in the 1970's the lds church was more likely to excommunicate but it woud depend a great deal on the knowledge that the offender had. I also think that the stake president or the bishop went easier on women than men in general, especially when it came to premarital sex.

Now the lds church is less likely to excommunicate because the level moral problems have increased and it is more understanding of such imperfections.

This is true but I am not sure about the damage thing. When a person sins they more or less know what that sin can lead to. But I think that there is more understanding these days about sexual sins because of the current state of the world in this regard. The lack of a moral code that one finds in the media and on the internet, not to mention in the world has brought the temptation to commit a sexual sin to the forefront of people's lives.

I think that if this calender is the calender that I am thinking of, he was excommunicated for being a return missionary who used his experience to make a guy calender with a RM twist. Plus, who knows what he was saying in public before his excommunication. He did not promote his priesthood in a positive way. Like I said, it all depends on one status in the church when one commits such an act.

I see. So if morality can change according to the whims of "the times", which might, theoretically, see King David exonerated from his adultery with Bathsheeba (hope for David!), then, presumably, those who write "alternative history" will no longer be subjected to Church courts? They will all be invited back?

But no, acting in a pornmovie is not an excommunicable offense if the person has not been to the temple or had important callings in the lds church.

The local church can treat women differently because they don't have the priesthood. And like I said, it would depend on the knowledge of the offender. If the local church does not take any action, no action will be taken. Now if she begins to promote her Mormon identity as a pornstar, out she will go.

I think that the local lds church is more lenient wih women because they understand the pressure single women are under when it comes to sex---being constantly hit upon by horny guys from outside the lds church.
