The Three Nephites...

A popular bit of the Mormon Story when I joined LDSism in the '50s, these Three that were "...allowed to tarry..." seem to have faded from common folk-lore. And yet to the story tellers of yester-year they were as real as Joseph, BY or TS Monson.
Has there been a recent sighting, or of their stepping into the affairs of Mormonism, as they did in the past? Curious, Roger

It's been a while, but didn't they split up after this photo was taken?

I think the LDS Culture went a little overboard with Three Nephite Legends, and so they've fallen out of fashion.
This disclaimer is included in the teacher's manual for the Book of Mormon Gospel Doctrine Class when the three Nephites are taught:
Note: Stories often circulate about the three Nephites who were translated. Members of the Church should be careful about accepting or retelling these stories. You should not discuss them in class.
I think if the Lord didn't use them to "restore" the Priesthood to Joseph and Oliver, then they probably don't serve any practical purpose.

Thanks Cinepro. The Disclaimer is interesting. Is the Church issuing many such statements? There could be more as serious thinking prevails... Maybe a few more funerals. And leaders born post '50s...

This one of the more interesting aspects of Mormonism. Be careful what you say about "the Three Nephites", as if that's somehow more absurd than the idea that a man living in 600 BC could see Columbus landing the the New World.
Does anyone note that there's little, if any defence, of the "Three Nephites" idea? The word "mythology" just jumps out at them as it does all of us. But the
rest of the Book is "history". Of course.

As do the words fables, tales, gossip, imaginings, fabrications... Yes, how long before the "history" is also acknowledged as unsubstaniable and tagged with a disclaimer?
Ray, there is a RC Forum in OZ that is very open and interesting. Catholica.com Check it out. Some good thinking there...

Do you suppose that these three Nephites have any knowledge of what is going on in this land? Thay know all about it; they are filled with the spirit of prophecy. Why do they not come into or midst? Becase the time has not come. Why do they not lift up their voices in the midst of our congregations? Because there is a work for us to do prparatory to their reception, and when that is accomplished, they will accomplish their work, unto womsoever they desire to minister..

I didn't see any forum, Roger, but if you can post a full link for me I'll check it out again.

They are being held captive in Daniel Peterson's basement.
He is writing a piece RIGHT NOW about how there may be seventeen different 3 Nephites.
STAY TUNED.... ShieldsResearch will be picking this up very soon.
