How is Her Amun a pundit?

Don't get me wrong, he seems like a nice enough guy, so God bless him, but I have to be honest: He doesn't really seem like pundit material to me. Am I missing something?

Just wondering....

Probably because he is a grad student.

I don't think the "Pundit" status says much about the brilliance of a particular poster. If it did, Uncle Dale would be one too.

Isn't smac97 a pundit? That's hilarious. Guy couldn't think his way out of a paper bag.

He is? In what?

I know he likes ultimate fighting and Mormon apologetics. I wasn't aware of any academic interests.

Here's what Chaos said about the "making of a Pundit" in June 2007.

This my own personal opinion and may vary from other mods or the board owner or admin:

We created the "Pundit" group so that we could have a forum (School of the Pundits) were there could be meaty discussions restricted to certain posters.

All scholars that post here are pundits but not all pundits are scholars.

Pundits, from my viewpoint, are fairly well informed posters that tend to offer a lot of substance, at least more substance than fluff. They are talking heads and can hold their own in a meaty topic and discuss it in a fairly civil and intelligent way (and they are allowed a few "bad hair days/moments" - we cut them some slack). There is a lot of variety in pundit group - i.e., LDS and nonLDS and all are not equally well-informed on a particular topic. There are others that are pundits even though they don't really have any particular expertise - these were made pundits so that they could participate in the Pundits form. They can hold their own make the discussion interesting.

All scholars and pundits that we know about are members of the "Pundit" group and you will see "Pundit" below their name in their posts. Here is the current group of pundits.

We have other members here that could be pundits but are not in the group yet --- most of the time we add them at the point that they are going to participate in a particular discussion in the Pundits forum.

It's not necessarily about "academic status". If it were about that, though, I would consider Tarski to be one serious omission.

I don't know. This was just a guess, based on the reason I was pundit-ized, his age... and his mentioning on one thread that he was in middle of finals-week.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia wrote:
Pundit may refer to:

Pundit (expert), an expert or opinion-leader who analyzes events in an area of expertise in the popular media
Pundit (explorer), a 19th century term to denote native surveyors who explored regions to the north of India for the British Empire
Pandit, in India, a scholar or expert, especially of traditional Indian law, philosophy, or music

Could be a scholar.

This is indeed most puzzling considering the ribald meaning of "Amum" in Sumerian. If makes sense with a feminine pronoun but definitely not with a masculine pronoun. That Her Amun guy is a clever but naughty dude.
