MAT 5:30, States: "...if thy right hand offends thee, (cause you to sin) cut it off, and cast it from thee..." Most literalist choke a bit on that one. But not those who really take "The, Word-of-God" seriously.

Joe Fleming, 20, in Canada's NWT was influenced by that verse in the Bible to do exactly that. He used an axe and a knife to satisfy the instructions of Christ as found in the "word of God". Joe does have a history of mental illness, reported the Nunatsiaq News, from which this information was gleaned. However, it does raise a question about a person's mental-health who seriously takes the Bible to be "The Word of God."

There have also been a few men who have cut off their johnsons to comply with this verse. Sexual purity and all that.

The Skoptsy (Russian: скопцы, also transliterated as Skoptzy, Skoptzi, Skoptsi, Skopzi, Scoptsy and other spellings) were a secret sect of Christianity in imperial Russia. The Skoptsy are best known for practicing castration of men and the mastectomy of women in accordance with their teachings against sexual lust.
...
The name "Skoptsy" is a plural of "skopets", an archaic word meaning "castrated one" in the Russian language.

As their title indicates, the main feature of the sect was castration. They believed that after the expulsion from the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve had the halves of the forbidden fruit grafted onto their bodies forming testicles and breasts. Thus, the removal of these sexual organs restored the Skoptsy to the pristine state before the Original Sin.
...
Meetings were held late at night in cellars, and last till dawn. At these the men wore long, wide, white shirts of a peculiar cut with a girdle and large white trousers. Women also dressed in white. All present wore white stockings or went barefoot. They referred to themselves as "White Doves."

What about all the wonderful times when a few saints get the gospel exactly right?
How come nobody ever wonders about that? It just proves the viciousness of our day.

Hi Nightlion, you posted:

Good point. If you can bear reading enough of my posts, ;-) you will find that I state that same sentiment frequently. However, my OP has to do with sectarian Bible believers/readers. It did not refer to LDSaints who, "...get the gospel...right?" (As I think I did. That's why I can honestly credit it, and honestly discredit it. Both with clear conscience.)

I don't think, "...viciousness of our day" is as bad as that of other times, generally. Currently we don't burn-at-the-stake, nor tar-and-feather, nor engage public humiliations, or floggings, to teach, or punish sinners for the evils of their ways...

Could this be the basis for MAD's editorial and managerial policies? Castoff Nehor better watch himself around Juliann's hatchet.

I live in perpetual fear of the day that the awful power of the MADB rises against me and ruins my life by making me a pariah. The idea that a relatively obscure message board could (gulp) ban me for something fills me with mortal dread and robs me of sleep.
