See link below for AP article. Massachusetts, which allows gay marriage (along with 5 other states), has filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the federal DOMA. Could this be the first step on the road to the Supreme Court's deciding the constitutionality of gay marriage bans (such as Prop. H8)?

I have to tip my hat to you for providing these endlessly informative links. For my money, your legalistic interpretation of this whole issue has been singular, and imminently persuasive. Although I miss your classic, FAIRboard-esque style postings, these things have been awfully swell, too.

Let's see how many insincere "fans" of extreme interpretations of federalism and states' rights this thread will uncover. Does the Constitution permit the federal government to pass laws on subjects not enunciated in the Constitution, or not?

Thanks for the kind words, Doc. My participation here has slowed, but not intentionally -- perhaps I'm just losing interest after all these years of posting. I do plan to post something soon of evidence to suggest that the Brethren may be loosening up on the real reasons for the priesthood ban, and, which I hope, will lead to an official apology for nearly 150 years of racism by the institutional Church. Stay tuned ....
