I created an imaginary conversation between the two over on the other board and got myself banned. Obama's favourite theologian is Reinhold Niebuhr , a theologian noted for writing the Serenity Prayer. He taught at Union Seminary in NY in the 1930s. He had several black students in his class,one Frank Fischer who was a friend of the famous Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
David Brookes, the New Testament Times (conservative) writer said he asked Obama whether he was familiar with Reinhold Niebuhr. Obama then responded with a long response indicating he was totally familiar with his work. Brookes to say the least was pleasently surprised. Brookes' report on this conversation can be found on Speaking of Faith.org. and ForaTV.
I made the imaginary response of Obama to the seed of Cain issue with Obama saying basically since I have a white mother I only have half the seed of Cain?

My thoughts on this from another board:

Realistic Scenario:

Both parties shake hands and Monson introduces himself.
Obama asks Monson what issues are most pressing to his members.
Monson talks about religious freedom and basic protections he and the Church are worried about.
Monson asks Obama if there is anything he would like to ask the LDS to do.
Obama responds that there is nothing in particular.
Both parties shake hands and tell the other to get in touch if there is anything they can do for each other.

Better Scenario:

Monson calls Obama to repentance.
Obama laughs and orders his bodyguards to take him out.
Monson uses the Priesthood to deflect bullets.
Obama uses his Presidential powers to stop time for everyone but them so they can do battle.
Monson activates his CTR ring to blast Obama.
Obama dodges and retaliates by throwing the cremated remains of the founding fathers on Monson to counteract his powers.
Monson, with his powers gone, pulls Joseph's weapon from Carhage and spews out ammo.
Realizing it is a stalemate, Obama summons forth the Resurrected George Washington.
Monson counters by summoning Moroni.
The two summoned fighters battle until they rend the fabric of space and time bringing about the final battle between the Archangel Michael and Cthulu as all the dead stream into reality like in the Ghostbusters movie.
The world ends in a cataclysmic explosion.

I'm guessing the former but hope for the latter.

I think its Monson who should express repentence in behalf of the church. Years of teaching an inconsistant doctrine/practice based in part on a spurious Book of Abraham. You imagine prior to 1978 if you living in a area where one of your neighbours is white the other is black. You want to share the Gospel. You tell the white guy about all the blessings as a holder of the priesthood you are able to provide for your family. You tell the black guy his status is basically the same as a woman in the church. He cannot hold the priesthood. How humiliating would that be.

If this was true (it's not) he should apologize to the President?

It's humiliating to not have the Priesthood. I need to tell my non-LDS friends. My last Institute Director was Black. When he taught OD-2 to us he said to him it wasn't a big deal either way growing up and that he was not ostracized for it and felt no humiliation about it. However, I'm sure as a superficially educated white guy you would know better then them what they SHOULD feel.

With President Clinton, the Prophet presented him with a nice binder of his genealogy. It would be interesting to see how the Church does with President Obama's less conventional heritage (and if they place his birth in Hawaii, that could make it "doctrine" for the nutcases that otherwise doubt it... :) )

Nehor, read Lester Bush's paper in Dialogue on the history of the black issue. They were never consistant (e.g Elijah Abel). I knew a guy who served a mission in New York prior Old Testament 78. He said when they were door-knocking and encountered a black family, they taught them the first discussion. However the black family had to ask them to come back to present the other discussions whereas the situation was different for a white family where they were around the next week for the second discussion. Kind of like half-hearted missionary work when it came to blacks. Interesting poem by Harlem poet Langston Hughes

So did the genealogy that was presented to Pres. O have a "B" printed next to his mother's name? Probably not, right? That's a touchy subject. Best to leave the ordinance information off and just do one of those nice ornamental framed pedigree things.

Let's just hope that Monson doesn't go the Brigham Young route and try to kill Obama on the spot for being of mingled seed.
