Now, now, GP.....All I did was make the observation that there were advantages to hand-held shower heads. Maybe you are a naughty boy for allowing your mind to wander into Telestial territory. LOL

Uncle Dale wrote:Think of the situation in "The Valley" during the "Reformation" of the mid-1850s,
when all the "moral" chastisement of the Saints by their leaders began in earnest.

In the British Mission polygamy had been revealed -- causing a terrible drop-off
in converts. Same problem in Canada. The Scandinavian missions were not yet
supplying vast numbers of new members.

All the while, The Brethren were trying to justify their polygamy by talking about
the need to raise up a holy generation, etc. etc.

Trouble was -- polygamy did not increase the number of new births as quickly
as monogamy would have done. The pressure was on -- for "faithful" males to
produce as many new children as possible.

"Onanism" ran counter to the needs of the Church -- to supply "tabernacles of clay"
for all the righteous "spirit children" clamoring to be born as Mormons.

One more piece of stupidity we can lay at Joseph's inability to keep his pants up.

The LDS Church's opposition to masturbation derives from a time when its position was commonplace among conservative Christian Churches in America. That they're still hanging onto it is the interesting aspect of this. It's increasingly anachronistic. The position on masturbation is a close cousin of the opposition to birth control which the Church eased up on gradually in more recent times. So why that and not masturbation? I'm not sure. That the organization is set up in a way that men beyond their years of sexual activity are running the show might play a role.

Well there are lots of activities in life that merit moderation -- but we might also ask
what those activities keep us from, that might be better for us in the long run?

A have a friend with a gambling addiction -- even gambling in moderation keeps
him away from his family, employment, and a nurturing home environment. Besides
which, he might "go overboard" with his gambling at any moment.

I have some modest enjoyments which are perhaps harmless in themselves,
but they occupy time that could be devoted to better activities -- to responsibilities
that I have taken on, and really should fulfill.

Perhaps this is one of those activities best left to the end of the day -- when all
other necessities and obligations are taken care of, and a person's "free time"
is fully his/her own.

May not sound very exciting -- but moderation, as a rational restriction -- usually
isn't all that exciting either.

Well -- looks like it's time for bed....

hmmmmmmmmm....

I love how this person who's opposed to masturbation equates the normality of it to the normality of pooping in the middle of the street.

Um... most (read: 99.9999999999%) guys have masturbated at least once in their life. How many people can say they've pooped in the middle of the street? It doesn't seem like it's a very normal activity to me.

I often find it amusing how some religious folk come up with some of the worst analogies ever. What's up with that?

So why don't Bishops, Stake Presidents and other leaders interview the girls and ask them about the practice? Too embarassed? Get all hot & bothered if the girls answer and start going into detail... or they start asking questions themselves since the leader brought it up?

Why are they only worried about the factories of the guys?
