Why didn't Adam have more than one wife?

Post by _twinkie »

If God had given Adam more than one wife, wouldn't that have populated the earth much faster?

Oh, goody, I'm first to reply.

Yes, according to the laws of arithmetic there would have certainly been an increase. And what is your point, Twinkie?

Heck, I don't know. Sometimes random thoughts spew forth. Then I have to be an idiot and post them on a message board.

According to Brigham Young, Adam -- our God (the Michael of scripture) -- brought one of his
wives
into the earthly paradise, in order to start the human race in tabernacles of clay. No
doubt this same Michael later brought to earth some of his other wives -- but since they are
not mentioned in scripture, we need not be concerned with them.

Besides which, Adam foresaw the upcoming apostasy in the days of his offspring Noah,
and understood that no matter how many wives were having children on earth, that
their progeny would all be killed off in the future flood.

A better question would be -- why was the Patriarch Noah a monogamist?

How do you know that Adam didn't have more than one wife? There could've been others not mentioned. Also, while it's repugnant to our modern sensibilities, he likely had many daughters. If you posit only one original couple, then incest figures prominently. It's just a fact of life in this case.

It's also true that those who posit a creation involving evolution have possibilities to choose from that don't involve incest.

Pretend he had 1,000 wives. At this point I think its all incest anyways.

Well, if we play Darwinists and go back in time to the first earthly
zygote, we would be forced to ask just where its parent lifeforms
originated. If not from incest, then at least from "self-abuse."

A messy origin, no matter how we try to sanitize it for fourth-grade
