Do you see any posts of zzyzx that are temperate in nature? I think your umbrage is misplaced.

I find plenty of posts offensive on this board. I rarely respond to them because, frankly, I don't think they deserve a response (see, e.g., the current thread "Was Joseph Smith a Sexual Predator?"). But when I see someone inventing stories and preying on the gullibility of people already disposed to believe the worst about the Church, I'm going to call them on it. Sorry if that offends your sensibilities.

Wow, Nevo. That was a major league mistake. On this thread you have asserted that zzyzx is mentally ill. Now, you are implying that I am gullible and predisposed to believe the worst about the church.

Neither of which is at all true of me.

In other words, what you're doing is resorting to smear not only of zzyzx but also now, of me. Someone you have known for quite sometime online and should be keenly aware of how much time I've spent defending LDS and their culture on boards, and oftimes siding with in discussion where common ground warranted it.

What's telling is that you are one who is resorting to personal attack. What you are doing is demonstrating the plausibility of the OP.

Big ass mistake, Nevo.

Anyway, zzyzx, you really need to report this bishop. Especially after that stunt where he had all the home teachers teach as their monthly message that Obama was a "commie," "unAmerican" and someone who "hates all white people down deep." I'm kind of surprised that all of the home teachers went along with this—after all, bishops don't usually dictate the home teaching message—but I guess in Utah anything's possible!

You know what I find telling in this conversation, aside from the plausibility of the OP? It's that no one, including people who don't find the OP thread plausible, denies that it is part of LDS culture to encourage members to cut off business ties with "apostates", however loosely that term may be defined.

That is highly problematic behavior in and of itself.

The score so far:

1. zzyzx posted some anectdote about an incident that took place at church.
2. I simply said that I found it plausible.

Now...

zzyzx has been called a liar by Gaz.

Nevo ups the ante and calls him a pathological liar (mentally ill).

agent suddenly needs to know how many meetings I've attended/Bishops interacted with.

agent advises zzyzx on how to hide himself from anyone who might want to pass on his in real life information to someone in the church.

Nevo is now rooting around in zzyzx's posting history to find proof that he's mentally ill.

Nevo has asserted in no uncertain terms that I am gullible and am predisposed to think the worst of the church.

And people are crawling into my PM's because they don't like that I think the OP is plausible.

When...

The behavior on this very thread makes the OP plausible.

Go figure, eh?

Folks, if you don't want people to think that people in your church have the capacity to personally attack or slander another person, you might want to knock off doing it in full public view on this board.

Just a suggestion.

Which is what agent confirmed.

I'm telling you beastie, I'm going to take a course in aberrant psychology and use this flippin' board for my case studies.

Which has not a damn thing to do with the plausibility of the OP on this thread, Nevo.

Okay, I'll deny that "it is part of LDS culture to encourage members to cut off business ties with 'apostates.'" I've been a member all my life. I've attended church in dozens of wards in three countries and on two continents. I don't recall ever hearing an "apostate" named in Church, much less being warned to stay away from them. Maybe this happens in some jurisdictions, but I doubt it's part of a churchwide culture.

I asserted no such thing.

LDS members need no "encouragement" to cut ties, business or otherwise with apostates. They just do it. If you don't believe this, try living and owning a business in Utah as an active member before leaving the church.
