Was Reid elected by the voters in his district to represent their interests, or was he elected by the church in order to represent its interests?
Non sequitur. Are Reid's interests in opposition to the Church he claims to belong to?
Mormon 3:11 applies here.

Reid has stood in direct opposition to church leaders in the past. I think the general consensus among the members is that he's going to hell. When an Apostle of Christ comes to Washington and asks you to uphold the sanctity of marriage, and you vote against it, that's really saying something.
Nice to know members are making decisions best left to Jesus.
What decisions would those be? 1 Corinthians 6:2

Reid has done this before and gotten away with it. I agree. He'll get away with it again. This man has done more damage to the Church than all of the September Six combined did or ever could have done.
What does this tell us about the Church, that it would discipline the September Six but take no action against a high level politician who, according to you, has done more damage than they?
That they believe excommunicating Reid would cause even more damage than that. I disagree. I think they are thinking in terms of potential converts. I believe principles are more important than any cost benefit analysis.

Or he provides the only solid argument against the LDS Church being a de facto arm of the Republican Party.
What if it was? That alone speaks to the fact that righteousness and morality vis a vis LDS doctrine does not exist in the Democratic party which is the real and most important message. The Republican party certainly isn't perfect, but LDS doctrine can (and does) certainly swim there quite well.

Are you telling us that when the prophet speaks, the thinking has been done?

Just to be clear....Do you feel that Reid should, or should not be going through some sort of Church disciplinary action for publicly disagreeing with Church principles?
And, if you do not feel that he should...please explain to me how what Reid did differs with what the September Six did?

Who is going to Hell.
Your passage about the saints judging the world applies to the end of the world time not here and now nor does it apply to one saint-Gaz, judging the eternal position of another saint, Reid.

Well that is nice to see. You apply your harsh and condemning attitude to everyone equally. So are you implying that the top leadership have a double standard in this area. They let Reid off the hook because the PR debacle would be horrible but were this you or me we would get the ax? What does the say about how the top leaders are with principles? You seem to be saying that they are more concerned about growth and profits than principles.

I really don't like it when BCspace agrees with my assessment of the Brethren. It's spooky.

He should have been excommunicated long ago for apostasy.
And, if you do not feel that he should...please explain to me how what Reid did differs with what the September Six did?
Probably more to do with scale than anything else. There are no redeeming values in the left wing.
