Looks as if the more things change the more they stay the same.
Same old attitude of 'God gave us this place' and the same resistance from those who live there and don't like the Mormon attitude.

owning a paper in Nauvoo and publicly stating you have problems with Mormons - that takes courage.

The citizens should put a giant statue of Joseph Smith with his head in a hat in the town square.

That was entertaining.

The woman selling the "modest" sweatshirt, by the way, isn't lds and said, "“We sell an ungodly number of these shirts.”

I was interested in this part of the piece: "Jane Langford, owner and editor of Nauvoo’s newspaper, The New Independent, said the assessed value of her home has quadrupled over the last 10 years -- along with her tax bill -- and expressed the belief that the church is orchestrating the buying spree with the goal of forcing long-time residents out."

Missouri, anyone?

Just breezing in here, zzyzx, because I couldn't resist correcting your thread title.

"Little Nauvoo" was on the Jersey Shore. That is to say, it was in New Jersey, not just a few miles from my home there.

I ain't lyin'. Look it up.

Surely someone (other than myself) has contacts who can tell us what is happening NOW related to Mormonism in the Nauvoo area. The DGC doesn't have anything.

This gem is absurd:

“Yeah, I think it’s a master plan,” she said, adding that the percentage of Mormons living in the town has increased from 10 percent to 35 percent over the period. “I think it’s been thought out for years and I think that they will get control of the City Council and the School Board within five years, then you’ll see a big drop in prices.”

The Church always buys property around new temples. They learned their lesson from what happened in Mesa. The temple is surrounded by a really crappy neighborhood.

"Master plan...." sheesh
