[quote="The Nehor"I suspect he did only what he said. If the girl is coming clean after all these years after extorting money out of him she has little reason to make it sound less then it actually was.

I don't think this event was the main cause of the girl's problems either.[/quote]
Think about it NEH.

If nothing occurred, then why the enormous payout?

He should have just told the obvious truth.

Now he is back in the hot water of public opinion, alone and naked.

Yeah yeah, his wifey is on his side. Duh! She needs his income.

I didn't say nothing happened. A grown man sitting in a hot tub with a 16 year old girl is bad enough to nuke your political career. He paid the money to avoid being outed.

He should have just told the obvious truth.

Yes, and hopefully his career is over. If there was more, I'd expect the girl outing him to mention it. As it is she has a pretty tame story as these things go and she has no reason to hold anything back.

Yep! I believe him.

As they sat in their birthday suites (most likely 3 feet apart), Mr. Garn was simply and only enjoying a long chat with her about High School teachers, hot lunches, and acne cures.

No biggie, I am confident he probably even had his eyes closed during this pleasant talk.

Peace,

and a cigar is just a cigar.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

I don't know who Kevin Garn is and I suspect I wouldn't like him but as a matter of principle I have to be consistent.

I do not like to judge people based on mistakes from the past.
If there is one thing that I do think is correct about true Christianity, it is that people can change (become new creatures as they say).

I oppose the "once a criminal always a criminal" mentality.

If my identity and worth was to be forever defined by mistakes of my youth and if I could never transcend them and put them behind me, then I may as well have checked out long ago.

Crimes need to be paid for. Society demands thta. Should he be exempt?

I don't know the details of what happened. In general crimes should be paid for.
Even when people pay their dept to society they often never really get any kind of second chance.

But, I wonder, think really hard now, have you committed any crimes or sins you haven't paid for?
I'm not sure I could answer no to that one.

As a father of a teenage girl, I know what I'd be doing to a guy that lives in Layton right now if it were my daughter - even 20 something years later.

I feel for Tanya (Kevin's wife).

Is there a statute of limitations on convicting a man for attempted sexual misconduct with a minor? There shouldn't be. It carries a 1-12 year sentence in Arizona.

Things like this can effect a minor for the rest of their lives.

How could anyone with a daughter applaud this guy? Only in UTAH?

It really rang the bell, about how the Senator will refuse to press charges after the now grown lady broke confidentiality agreements written into the $150,000 hush money agreement. I am certain that funneling campaign money into a hush payment was a crime in and of itself. Talk about spin with chutzpah on the Senator's part.

Anyway, I am in the mood to forgive Senator Garn as part of my religious beliefs.
