Is LifeOnaPlate Toying with Apostasy?

Post by _Doctor Scratch »

Boy, things sure have been strange on the aptly named MADboard lately. Obviously, there is the whole "smackdown" involving Bob Crockett's utter wrecking of the apologists. Plus, Brent Metcalfe made a cameo and sent all of them reeling. When you see "Scotty Dog" Lloyd struggling to barf up a couple of lame put-downs, you pretty much know that the apologists have been pwned. In addition to that, I noticed that Dr. Peterson launched a rather embarrassing thread in a desperate attempt to seem "hip." He would probably have a better sense of what's fashionable if he would quit hanging around with rubes like Bill "Sweater Vest" Hamblin. Just my .02.

What was most fascinating of all, though, was this thread, apparently initiated by LifeOnaPlate in an effort to exact revenge on another poster:

http://www.mormonapologetics.org/topic/ ... t-be-true/

It seems to me that this may wind up backfiring in a spectacular way, however, since the thread is essentially an invitation to deny Church doctrine. Take a look at this:

LifeOnaPlate wrote:I couldn't find the original quote frank was referring to. Nevertheless, I think this would eb an interesting topic, and a chance for frank to increase his count.

I doubled his count in this wise:

I believe there is potential progression between degrees of glory in the hereafter, though this belief may not be true.

Feel free to jump in.

Wow. This seems like an awfully slippery slope. How long will it be before third-tier apologists like LoaP are saying, "I believe that Pres. Monson is a true prophet, though this belief may not be true"? Given LoaP's status as a semi-public figure in the world of online Mopologetics, he may want to consider asking the mods to delete the thread. I mean: can you imagine what would happen if a gossipy Chapel Mormon saw what he was up to?

Perhaps sensing what was wrong with LoaP's proposition, the threat-issuing poster called "Lamanite" refused to play along:

Lamanite wrote:I believe that the Spirit World resides somewhere other than this earth...

I also believe that an infinite Atonement allows for an infinite time frame with which to apply it....

Big UP!

Lamanite

(Notice that he edited the post. I wonder if he deleted the LoaP-requested "though this belief might not be true" portion....)

It will be very interesting to see how this thread develops.

To answer the question in the subject line: no.

To answer the question in the subject line: yes, as much as anyone who delves into apologetics.

In the face of Monson saying this past weekend that animals have no minds, brains, souls, etc., LoaP disagreed--even before the apologists explained that Monson didn't really mean what he clearly said. So maybe LoaP is having some doubts about LDS Inc v.2010.04

No and yes...

I believe LOAP got a first hand view of dirty apologetics from the likes of Bill Shryberever. Imagine one who has been on the sidelines watching his heros march up and down the field and finally getting a chance to get in the game, run for a first down, only to be laughed at and told off by the Wide Receiver. This person is bound to have some sort of cognitive dissonance.

LOAP is good people, I cannot think for him. Apologetics can often be a dirty game. These are not the likes of Bushman, Prince, and Givens. This is a whole new ball game.

This little game designed to allow ones subconscious speak uninhibited with a disclaimer to "take it back" if need be is not the kind of entertainment that keeps one on the straight and narrow path.

LoaP believes in Kingdom hopping, one of the Seven Deadly Heresies. He believes in a mesoamerican Book of Mormon which is close enough. We could go on with the known issues, but what will he reveal next?

A better game would be "I believe in x" - "because president _____" said so.
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

I believe in Kingdom hopping. However, I do Not believe in the Mesoamerican setting for the Book of Mormon. The Mesoamerican setting for the Book of Mormon is very lame theory.

If there is no Systematic Theology in place for the Church, then doesn't this allow the statements of belief by LOaP and others to be equally valid?

When did he say such a stupid thing as this? Which session, please? Thanks.

Sounds like he's is tanking public. Sad. I'll go look on MAD. I can look but cannot touch.

Maybe LoaP simply agrees with critics when they assert it is somewhat misleading for believers to assert things like: “I know beyond a shadow of a doubt…”

I do not believe that means he’s losing faith.
