Droopy wrote:Enuma, have you been through One Eternal Round yet? I just finished it last night, and I'd like to ask you for your general perspective on its contribution to the ongoing Book of Abraham debate.
Droopy, I see that you are trying to hang on to your flimsily testimony of Hugh Nibley and his apologetic church. LOL! You will lose, boy. Just think of the sexual things you can do after you quit the church. You’ll be free to do any of those pleasures you desire. You know what I speak of. The pleasure that await you are all for the taking! Droopy, you are my brother.
Jesus Christ superstar! That is my favorite Alice Cooper song! Holy Moses! Holy Abraham! Holy John Gee! I hold back the tears. I've been watching that song on Live at Montreux concert tonight as you wrote this post. Wow, we have a connection, brother. Wow.
Please list the great truths of the Book of Abraham that help mankind, starting with the most important:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Thank you.

Droopy wrote:Of course, what Harmony means here is Joseph's marriage and sealing to Fanny, not his affair (for which no documentary evidence exists).
But why let fair, intellectually honest analysis get in the way of one's agenda?
Your lack of intellectual honesty is not my problem, Droopy. Joseph's affair with Fanny took place prior to the restoration of the sealing power. And there was no marriage, even though there was eventually a sealing. There are no marriages for Joseph, except to Emma. You can lie to yourself all you want, but marriage is now and was then a legally binding action, governed by laws, which Joseph broke.
Joseph lied. Get used to it.

Paul Osborne wrote:Joseph Smith was in fact a liar and when he published his revelation to the world in the Times & Seasons that the name Shulem was contained in the hieroglyphic writing of Facsimile No. 3, he was knowingly telling a lie.
Out of curiosity, how do you know that Joseph did not really believe that he was inspired to translate a record, and thus genuinely believed that his translation was correct?
Phooey, you annoying bug. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Joseph Smith knowingly told a lie when he published his revelation that the name Shulem was contained in the hieroglyphic characters of Facsimile No. 3. He knew he was lying. I have a testimony of that given to me by inspiration from the Almighty.
My favorite Alice Cooper song was, without doubt, Ballad of Dwight Fry.

There's that darned word affair again, and you continue to use it although not a shred of compelling evidence exists to indicate an immoral relationship with Fanny Alger.
And there was no marriage, even though there was eventually a sealing.
A sealing is an eternal marriage, and this admission belies the weakness of your entire argument. Without any evidence of sexual activity between Joseph and Fanny (which isn't arguable, at least on the basis of any historical evidence), all we still have is your agenda-and unwillingness to give Joseph the benefit of the doubt.

You are correct, yet again, lord Shades. Joseph Smith was in fact a liar and when he published his revelation to the world in the Times & Seasons that the name Shulem was contained in the hieroglyphic writing of Facsimile No. 3, he was knowingly telling a lie. And yet we have Nibley and his stooge, coming here to MD to defend this. How pitiful.
Little wonder Joseph boy was tarred and feathered. He deserved it, and more.
I'd love to be your psychotherapist Paul. It would be a fascinating process uncovering the real issues gnawing and boring away at your soul.

It is what it is, Droop. You can't change history, just because you find it unappetizing.

He had no power to seal until 1836, Droopy. The affair with Fanny took place years earlier.
Joseph lied, Droopy. Deal with it.

Can anyone show us which part of the scrolls The Church has is actually the writings of Abraham, Moses and the rest of the gang as Joseph Smith told folks it was?
Has anyone with 'knowledge of Egyptian writing' been able to translate or tell what the symbols Joseph wrote out from his 'inspired translating' mean?
Joseph and others said he translated from the scrolls. It should be easy for others to translate it pretty close to what he did given that the scrolls are now available to compare.
Go for it.
