What are the best ways to tell if someone is a NOM?

Easy: The male variety will be wearing a blue dress shirt. The female NOM will be wearing sandals.

The following are based on what I've seen a known NOM do in my ward. It does not mean TBMs would not act this way. Just my observation.
When they bear their testimony they say something like, "I believe..." instead of "I know..." and they only talk about Jesus or God or something basic like that - completely avoiding Joseph Smith.
Their comments/questions in EQ/Relief Society are slightly shocking.
So far, those are the only clues I have. I have not seen NOM's necessarily go inactive or break commandments any more than anyone else. The clues are very subtle. I usually would never know if I saw one.
I see TBMs wearing non-white shirts(males) and sandals(female) to church.

There's a zipper on their sheepskin.

Depends on what your definition of a NOM is, but I think most of them don't come to Church.

All the NOMs I know go to church. I know a few TBM's that don't go to church.

This demonstrates your naiveity on so many levels, BC. Of what value is a blind shepherd? You ought to turn in your staff.

No, it actually demonstrates the fluidity of definitions by the critics to fit their own needs at the moment. I've been called a NOM. I've been called a TBM. I've been called a chapel and an internet Mormon even though it's been demonstrated (and recently admitted) that there is no such dichotomy. Which am I?

I don't believe you fall under any of the above designations.
Whatever it is, it's right there under your poorly fitting sheepskin suit.
