Something about which I have wondered, discussed on the new thread about Satan's apron...

What in the world is Satan's priesthoods?

Just wondering,

~td~

I would prefer this thread not discuss temple rituals and ceremonies. Thanks! ;-)

Good question! My understanding is that "priesthood" is "the power to act in God's name."

Sooo, yeah. Good question. :)

I do know that my FIL told me this weekend that Satan is super smart and way powerful. He is so powerful that he has been planning all the horrible government problems for decades! Man, he's good. I mean, BAD!

ETA: I think it is the Satanic Priesthood. The power to act in satan's name. Any evil crime or act can be attributed to the Satanic priesthood.

wow, you must be married to one of my sisters. my dad says the same kind of stuff all the time. like muslim extremists attacking the U.S. because that's where the church is headquartered. satan wants to destroy the church HQ. (the new mall in SLC better watch out for stray passenger jets!)

i wonder if george miller's thoughts about "good" vs. "bad" masonry in new york state in the 1820s could help explain Joseph Smith's idea that satan had his own priesthood. my guess is that Joseph Smith saw secret combinations/works of darkness as all tying together like some sort of Satanic priesthood.

Back in my seminary days, I was told that Satan's priesthood mirrors God's priesthood, with Alma 34:35 as the proof text:

"For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he doth seal you his; therefore, the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state of the wicked."

If God's priesthood is the power to "bind and seal" here on the earth and in heaven, then Satan's priesthood is likewise the power to "bind and seal" in this world as well as outer darkness.

It goes along with the idea of "opposition in all things." If something is good, you can bet that it mirrors something bad.

Interesting that Satan's priesthood, which figures so prominently in the Endowment, is never actually expounded upon.

Hi TD.

Here is the thing that is important to remember. It is important because it has implications all over Mormon Doctrine:

There are many evil, horrible things in this world that are almost (say, 90% or so) the same as very, very good things. The only way you can know the difference is by listening to the spirit and your priesthood leaders.

The important word here is counterfeit.

Now, let's consider for a moment how this works in practice: FLDS practice of polygamy vs. Joseph Smith's practice of polygamy. See?

ROTFLMBO

I think I get it! Like Nephi decapitating Laban vs. King Noah killing Abinidi. Or Moses' genocides vs. Hitler's genocides. Human sacrifice by Isrealites vs. human sacrifice by "others." Yup, it all makes sense now.

I don't believe Satan holds any Priesthood(s). I doubt God would allow it after turfing him from the Garden. BUT; If he does; it is probably "Melchi-Resha".
Melchizedek is a contraction of 2 Hebrew words: Melchi and Zedek: meaning "King of Righteousness". Jesus Christ was also called " King of Righteousness"
Melchi-Resha in Hebrew means: "King of Darkness" or "King of Evil"; and according to translations of the Dead Sea Scrolls, is attributed to Satan.
Also; Satan wears the Dark or Black apron.

All I can say is during the live sessions, I really coveted Satan's apron. It's cool (possibly on purpose).
