"People aren't recognizing his version of Christianity," Beck added.

Beck made the remarks in answer to a question about his previous accusation that Obama was a "racist" who has "a deep-seated hatred for white people." He contended that that statement "was not accurate" and that he had "miscast" Obama's religious beliefs as racism.

"You see, it's all about victims and victimhood; oppressors and the oppressed; reparations, not repentance; collectivism, not individual salvation. I don't know what that is, other than it's not Muslim, it's not Christian. It's a perversion of the gospel of Jesus Christ as most Christians know it," Beck said.

Don't know about you, but I suspect irony may be dancing around here somewhere.

So is Beck doing our Church a disservice with these remarks?

I think Beck is doing a very good job of destroying Mormonism. Does that answer your question? There are plenty of other far right LDS's who are also cooperating in the effort. They are only adhering tightly to the logical sequence of some of the teachings of past LDS prophets, so I don't see how they could be ex'ed for it.

Speaking sincerely, though, the phenomenon is really quite scary.

Glenn Beck is an ignorant idiot with a giant audience. I am not among their number.

Yeah, I about choked when I heard that clip. I suspect Beck suffers from the same problem some LDS apologists suffer from: too much bubble, not enough real life.

If we go back and read the LDS leaders' discourses in the "Deseret News"
of the 1850s, the 1860s, the 1870s, the 1880s, the 1890s, etc. etc., we
can see the same pattern -- of condemning officials in Washington, D.C. of
having corrupted true religion.

I just finished up reading a Brigham Young sermon, denouncing public schools,
because they are run on government-collected taxes and employ non-Mormon
teachers. Change a couple of words in his sermon and today's Tea Party
enthusiasts would probably applaud at all the built-in pauses.

I wonder how that old party line from Temple Square would play out with
Mitt Romney running the country, and yet retaining the "entitlement"
programs, public schools, legalized abortion, etc.?

Beck would have to re-design his rhetoric in that case -- or perhaps even
face excommunication, for teaching false doctrine.

I think that, for a closer correlation, we'd have to see him
endorsing the recent Murfreesboro mosque burning and the
earlier Jacksonville mosque bombing.

He won't go that far. That's still the domain of the KKK.
But give the current recession another few years and...

He has accused him of promoting a perversion of the Christian gospel.
That's about as close as it gets -- unless Beck demands a return to
the State Churches of the original Thirteen Colonies.

Harry Reid's Jesus has yet to be mentioned. It would be rather interesting
to see Reid subtly address Beck's recent pro-Evangelical rhetoric.
