Re: Why do many Mormon women not experience orgasm?
Jason and Will,
My bride and I were married in the early to mid eighties just as you were. We figuratively slashed our throats and disemboweled ourselves together a day before the wedding, Committing to God, angels and other voyeurs that we would obey the law of chastity.
I honestly believe you two are full of crap when it comes to what you remember your pre-marital bishop and SP admonishing you concerning your sexuallity.
The last counsel our singles ward bishop gave to both of us (among several other things) was that oral sex was an abomination and required sincere repentance. The counsel came unsolicited. At the time, the thought hadn't even crossed our minds.
I read the Miracle of Forgiveness (which is neither) previous to marriage. It was the worst book on human nature (and sexuallity) I ever read. How the hell you two (or 4) dodged all these poison arrows is beyond my belief.

Hello,
I believe teaching sex outside the bonds of marriage is 2nd Only to Murder has a deeply disturbing impact on the mindset of not only women, but men, too. Additionally, you have an organization that criminalizes masturbation, private sexual thoughts, and any form of sexual behavior that doesn't fall within its prescribed edicts. So, to whit, it's surprising to expect young Mormon adults to somehow change their minds literally overnight, on their wedding day, and embrace the very thing that was such a detriment to their Eternal Salvation just hours before. Additionally, they're coping with the idea that they've chosen the Right Mate for Eternity & what happens if their sexual compatibility, hampered by the neurosis embued by the Mormon church, manifests itself? They reject sex as a positive and fulfilling aspect of their lives, and embrace the absurd notion that it's a tool for procreation only rather than a social bonding experience.

A church that teaches that all sexual indiscretions are next to murder, that it is better to be dead than to lose your virginity before marriage and that prohibits even a repentent sexual transgressor from servung a mission and on and on as well as using shaming techniques as part of the repentance process is certainly going to produce many people that end up with sexual hang ups.

Totally quite Mr delude yourself all you want.
But I do agree that teaching more about the wonders of sex in marriage as well as some very explict premarital counseling for couples that are engaged would help.
And oh not for nothing but not only should such counsel include things about great sex. It should also include discussions about past sexual indiscretions if they have occurred by one or both parties and there should be some help purging out the baggage that may be there because of the harsh way the Church teaches about sexual sin..

Well perhaps I spoke too strongly and perhaps you have not read the rest of my comments on the thread. My SP did not give anywhere near the instruction that Will's did. He just emphasized that sex was really good in marriage and should be a big part of it. And my MP did give me the book I mentioned. It is on my bookshelf still.
I agree pretty much with your comments on the book MoF. I think it is a book that can be horribly damaging to a young person that has had or marries someone who has had past sexual activity.
And I have posted on this thread and others in the past that I think the Churches approach to this issue is mostly just awful.
Re: Why do many Mormon women not experience orgasm?
This is a frequent criticism of the LDS church for good reason. The church has a long history of attaching shame and fear to sexual feelings, and that isn't something that can be turned off over-night with a wedding ring.
The reaction of believers like Will who refuse to admit that the church's teachings can and do damage healthy marital sexuality is a demonstration of why defenders of the faith and apologists get a reputation for being less than honest.
Members of the church are taught, from primary on, that their prophets and apostles speak for the Lord. Then someone like Will claims that members ought to be able to disregard what they say without problems because they're a bunch of old men.
If it were not for internet defenders of the faith and apologists, I may have lost interest in Mormonism years ago. But who can resist this type of entertainment?

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Mostly directed at Will, Jason. In all honesty, it was unkind of me to lump you with a person that is more likely beaten with a frying pan as form of foreplay.
I apologise.
You are fortunate to have had a SP and MP that even brought up the subject. Ours didn't.

Either that or stupid.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Dishonest, stupid, and predictable. It doesn't matter what the topic, some TBM will always come in saying he didn't never heard that, he wasn't taught that, he doesn't see why it's a big deal, ad nauseum. And now we have Shryver telling us that masturbation was taught against because the hygiene of the times was less than we have now, and he tells us he has an outstanding sex life ... both of which sound equally dishonest, stupid and predictable.

Re: Why do many Mormon women not experience orgasm?
Just lurking bit tonight during a long conference call and having read this I just have to give my testimony of having lived in non-child, married housing complex with thin walls at BYU. This problem with female orgasms did not apply to my neighbors. This was particularly unfortunate at around 3:00 AM.
Though I still think our discourse on sex could definitely be improved.
