Mormons aren't Christians because...?
What's your the most glaringly un-Christian doctrine or practice in Mormonism? And on what basis do other Christians disagree with each other about Jesus, but still consider each other Christian while excluding Mormons and Mormon differences? This has always been a sideshow subject for me; I feel like I don't have a dog in the fight. But watching the Shawn McCraney podcast with John Dehlin I find myself wanting to know why I can't take a side.
I'll go first: Mormons can't seem to escape the idea, whether a doctrine or practice, that God will eventually give us all what we deserve and not what we need. But as Shakespeare's Hamlet said, "Use every man after his desert, and who shall 'scape whipping?"

Because their church services are so long and boring, Says something. Can you imagine what would happen if 1/3 of people attending Mass would be playing with electronic gadgets?café crema wrote:because... they watch porn on their IPhones during church?

Is there some kind of interfaith paper or guide or something about how to qualify as a Christian or do Christians exclude Mormons simply because Mormons are low-hanging fruit? Regarding trinity, I always thought Mormon concepts of distinct beings rather than a God with multiple personality disorder was better, but never mind that. Are you suggesting that a Baptist's idea of trinity is identical to a Catholic's?

Re: Mormons aren't Christians because...?
“Christians” don’t accept Joseph Smith as a prophet of God nor the doctrine of Joseph Smith.
Jews don’t accept Jesus Christ nor the doctrine of Jesus Christ.
Mormons accept Joseph Smith and the doctrine of Joseph Smith.
It’s not what one accepts which defines the faith they subscribe to, but rather what they reject. Mormons want to be known as “Christian” to make them mainstream, but Christians don’t believe in the occult seer stones used by Joe Smith, nor do they subscribe to polygamy, ridiculous Masonic temple rituals for the dead, magical underwear, racist doctrine, pagan doctrine, plural Gods, three levels of heaven, etc. If Mormons are Christians then Christians are Mormons… Christians aren’t Jews and Jews aren’t Christians based on the doctrine they reject… why is this concept so difficult for LDS people to accept? Are they ashamed of being LDS?

Adherence to the Nicene Creed could be a valid one. Depending on your view.

Re: Mormons aren't Christians because...?
In fundamentalist Christian terminology, non-Christians are bad, immoral people. Therefore, since the most irrational anti-Mormon people are usually fundamentalist Christians, Mormons take it as an insult. Fundamentalist anti-Mormons have little ammunition, other than calling Mormons non-Christian, because Mormonism started out as being a fundamentalist anti-Catholic cult. I think it boils down to
