Do you believe in ghosts?
I'm sitting here watching Ghost Hunters on tv. I'd like to ask those of you who have either left "the church" or are considering leaving what you think now about an after life. Going from having ALL of the Mormon answers to ALL after-life questions to realizing no one has any of those answers is a big change. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Belief in a Holy Ghost is an essential part of Mormonism.

Re: Do you believe in ghosts?
Ghosts? SShhaa right. Actually I never believed in such things even while a member.
Next question? Satan?
No God means no devil or demons.
The most wonderful thing that I experienced after I knifed the testimonkey on my back was how wide open the world and society was to me.
The rotting corpses of the "we will understand when we die" answers that died with that diseased testimonkey act as fertilizer and give life back to many questions that I could now freely contemplate.
Talking with non Mormons was now simply just that. TALKING. Talking about anything! Instead of feeling like you had to analyze every phrase from them, looking for a place to set your Mormon hook to reel them in to deliver to the lazy missionaries.
Oh and I would be remiss if I did not say that actually talking with Mormons, especially the believing kind, oh my how much fun that now was! I already know exactly how they will respond to any question. Setting traps is a real cinch. You can really hone your skills on the Mormon.org ask an idiot a question chat room. That place is like a meat locker with tons of fresh meat ready and unwittingly willing.

Well, I have no intention of leaving the Church on my own volition, but the idea of an afterlife is one of great appeal to me and several billion other people.

Interesting that you ask the question while watching Ghost Hunters. I was watching Ghost Adventures (which I like better) just the other day and it also put a question in my mind. I was thinking of asking the atheists but since you already have a thread about ghosts... I'll ask it here....
I wonder how many atheists would be willing to do what Zach and the boys do on Ghost Adventures? It's easy to say "I don't believe in all that demon/ghost nonsense"... and another to lock yourself inside an abandoned prison all night. Any takers?

Re: Do you believe in ghosts?
This is what I want to know:
Why is it such a big deal when someone says, "I don't believe in God."
But not such a big deal when someone says, "I don't believe in ghosts."
hmmm. maybe because no God might indicate no heaven or no afterlife? I don't know.
Also, why is it not that big a deal for someone to say, "I don't believe in a literal Satan."
That should be just as big a deal as saying you don't believe in God unless your God is not totally benevolent.
Maybe the Church should add this to their TRI: "Do you believe in Satan and ghosts?"
So Lucinda,
Regarding ghosts I would have to say ghosts have become recreational to me. They can still spook me just like a clown peaking up at me from inside a stormdrain grate can spook me even though I don't believe clowns live in the storm sewer. In my mind they become a possibility for the duration of the scariness.

Would I be willing to do what they do on ghost adventures? You mean lock myself up somewhere, have people follow me around with a camera, pretend to hear noises by randomly yelling WHAT WAS THAT!?!??! Play recorded audio with a preference of "If you listen here, you can clearly make out a disembodied voice saying "go away intruder!", then there is nothing on the audio except static? Ride through a corn field wearing an absolutely ridiculous mask yelling "DOCTORE DOCTORE, YO SOY DOCTORE."
Yeah, I think I'd be willing to do all of that for free, let alone if someone actually paid me. I mean come on, even by ghost shows Ghost Adventures is ridiculous.
