Re: Elections
Bc, what happens when God calls you in as says, "I told you to stay away from tea - let alone those lamentable tea parties"?

Re: Elections
Feingold was the best civil libertarian in the Senate. I thought that voice needed to be there, and that was the only thing I cared about. That's done with.
One of the most left-wing senators is done with. Amen.

Ask Him for a CFR on the tea parties. Do you honestly believe the Tea Party movement is an actual political party?

Re: Elections
They never thought that far ahead while they were ranting against socialism and propping themselves up as "more American" than anyone who votes Democrat.
Actually, now that we've won so many state governments as well, we will be doing alot of redistricting on our terms AND it will last for 10 years.......
But KG speaks as if he's never balanced a checkbook. Here's a question. How many poor people are there in the U.S.? Answer that question reasonably well and I'll show you how to balance the budget. Not only that, but you'll be able to clearly see why the Democrats can never balance the budget even if they had total control if they want to stay true to their misguided policies. But Republicans could (just like they forced Clinton to do). And maybe they could start paying back the national debt instead of just making interest payments......

The Church's position on abortion? HELLO? Goddamn BCSpace, you make this too easy. From LDS.org:
"n today's society, abortion has become a common practice, defended by deceptive arguments. Latter-day prophets have denounced abortion, referring to the Lord's declaration, "Thou shalt not . . . kill, nor do anything like unto it" (D&C 59:6). Their counsel on the matter is clear: Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints must not submit to, perform, encourage, pay for, or arrange for an abortion. Church members who encourage an abortion in any way may be subject to Church discipline.
Church leaders have said that some exceptional circumstances may justify an abortion, such as when pregnancy is the result of incest or rape, when the life or health of the mother is judged by competent medical authority to be in serious jeopardy, or when the fetus is known by competent medical authority to have severe defects that will not allow the baby to survive beyond birth. But even these circumstances do not automatically justify an abortion. Those who face such circumstances should consider abortion only after consulting with their local Church leaders and receiving a confirmation through earnest prayer."

Re: Elections
Hi, BC,
In my life experience, I find a sure sign this is occurring, if not firmly entrenched in a man's soul, is when a person seems to see monsters everywhere they look. Critic, believer, republican, democrat, rich, poor, country, rock and roll...it's doesn't matter the position of the observer. What s/he describes has ceased to be a function of the objects reflecting light back to his/her eyes.
I'm responding primarily to clarify that I do not regret my vote for Obama, nor am I considering "changing my vote" whatever that means to you, my friend.
I'm tired of politics being a game of party vs party, like Mad Comic's Spy vs Spy. We need compromise in this country if we are going to find and enact solutions that work. That's just how it is. The real world requires compromise.

That fact that you are considering changing your vote also illustrates this.

Don't think that industry is anywhere close to being shut down though. That race is pretty close though.
I wish it were shut down. It amazes me how many otherwise good people are lured into participating in a practice that in my view results in the enslavement of more people than any other foolish practice that exists today. I even rank it below paying money to look at pornography.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Re: Elections
I don't think I am alone. I want to see an end to "No Compromise." Now.
It sure seems like not much is getting done. I'm just amazed at the number of people I'm seeing here that change from one party to the other. Everyone I meet in the real world is so immutably locked into one political ideology or the other that I couldn't understand why elections ever had different results. The people voting had not changed their opinions nor were they converted to a different political philosophy.

Re: Elections
As a rock-ribbed conservative, I am extremely pleased by the election results. I would be especially pleased if the conservatives can show enough backbone to take on entitlement reform. Obamacare already did that so I think the door is open (as part of a repeal of part or all of Obamacare), but will the Republicans seize the opportunity?
The craziest thing about this whole situation is that the weak economy is a direct result of the Fed's tight money policies, but Democrats paid the price. Today the Fed is widely expected to announce additional monetary easing, which will strengthen the economy. This is probably good for the freshman Republicans and Obama (unfortunately) in the long run.

Wow, something I agree with you about. I too am excited by what this means. Hopefully, the state legislatures can use redistricting to lock in the Republican gains.
Utah will get a fourth congressional seat and hopefully the legislature will be able to redistrict Matheson out of Congress.
