Would this God MAKE Emma Smith--(who had lost 4 babies and found out the love of her life was marrying girls behind her back)--accept the practice of polygamy by threatening to DESTROY her? Really?

And this....

If he is an Old Testament god, then maybe.

After Jesus' ministry, hard to imagine such a god.

He then took us down into his mother's chamber and showed us four Egyptian mummies stripped and then undertook to explain the contents of a chart or manuscript which he said had been taken from the bosom of one of them. ...

His mother looked on with attention and aided in the explanation whenever the prophet hesitated, from which I inferred that she was usually made the exponent of the writing to strangers. At the close, he notified us that for this instruction, his mother was in the habit of receiving a quarter of a dollar a piece form them, which sum we paid forthwith.

Since Lucy Mack Smith did not hold the priesthood, it is clear that no-one can accuse her of priestcraft for taking money for showing the sacred writings of antiquity in her care.

Teehee! Good point. Let it be noted that I was piggy-backing off Inconceivable and not trying to claim priestcraft in each case. Just adding to the money oddeties.

Face it folks, most religions make claims that are crazy in some respects. Little to no actual proof of anything in them past anecdotal and personal experiences of those involved.

Mormons do not have to rely on the testimony of men, they have the testimony of Joseph Smith. Didn't GordyB of the Big 3 say something like this?

There is no other God but Allah. Don't a Billion or so around the world believe this?

All Catholicsa are devils. This one I heard from the pulpit and from Baptists years ago, when John F. Kennedy was running for President.

"If there was proof, we wouldn't need faith".

Sure, then what would those doubters and believers both accept as 'proof' of anything?
Just ask the Rodney King and O.J. Simpson Juries.

God is a funny one. He had Moroni take the plates away so we would need faith, but he also left witnesses testifying of their existence so we would have evidence.

Apparently being swayed on an issue by only a little bit of questionable evidence is more virtuous than being swayed by a lot of evidence.

Great way of putting it. A little but not a lot of evidence. It seems this Mormon god really wants people to put their faith in the arm of flesh--that of 11 particular people.

2 Ne 4:34 "...Yea, cursed is he that putteth his trust in man or maketh flesh his arm."

Lucinda,

You must remember that the Mormon god, who is a man, holds women in far less regard than men.

How do I know this? LDS Theology. Men will become gods, and given many of these women as wives.

So God threatens to kill one of Joe's wives, big whoop. Emma was one of the older ones at that time anyway and it was obvious that she was not only less capable of creating tabernacles of clay, but her womb was probably done for at her age, so she had done all she would do on this earth, at least in the eyes of Elohim..

Joe would still have many wives left and lots of young one for his liking.

Once you as a woman understand your position in Mormon theology you will accept God threatening to kill Emma, and agree with Brigham in espousing the belief that she deserved such scorn from God!

But then again, you will not because you are now panty wearing exmormon woman! You will not GET to be one of many wives to a Mormon man god... I bet Simon has pity on you!

Hello,

How about a god who requires you to abstain from alcohol in order to receive Celestial glory, but figures it's ok to sell it via his adherents & business interests?

Think about it. Alcohol is enough to keep you from being a god, but it's ok to sell the drug to the rest of his creations.

Oh my.

One of my happiest days through all of this was realizing I don't WANT to make it to the Mormon heaven. As soon as I realized that, the fear disappeared.
