Why do you think the article did not mention her marriage to Joseph Smith?

I realize polygamy has likely been mentioned often in the Ensign, but I have never seen it. I am one of those BIC members that heard (through the grapevine) that Joseph Smith was a polygamist but I disregarded them as likely only dynastic and mostly occurring after his death.

Well, I just found an Ensign article mentioning Joseph Smith marrying Sarah Witney. And guess who wrote it? Yep, D Michael Quinn.

“My husband revealed these things to me; we had always been united, and had the utmost faith and confidence in each other. We pondered upon them continually, and our prayers were unceasing that the Lord would grant us some special manifestation concerning this new and strange doctrine. The Lord was very merciful to us; He revealed unto us His power and glory. We were seemingly wrapt in a heavenly vision, a halo of light encircled us, and we were convinced in our own minds that God had heard and answered our prayers and intercedings before Him.” 10 In obedience to the command of the living prophet, Newel and Elizabeth Ann gave their daughter Sarah Ann in marriage to Joseph Smith. Nearly a year later, Joseph Smith dictated the general revelation about the eternity of marriage and the nature of plural marriage, and Newel asked to have his own copy, a providential request, since the first copy was destroyed. Thus, Newel’s desire to have the word of the Lord has blessed the entire Church by preserving what is now Section 132 [D&C 132] in the Doctrine and Covenants. 11

I wonder how many times this has been mentioned in Ensign articles.

Nah... if you're talking about her immediate children. They would have been brought up around all kinds of shenanigans like that in every family on the block and used to all that stuff.

If you mean current descendants of Zina's, I'm sure they would have heard it all before and are so removed from it that they wouldn't really care.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

The marriage didn't make it through correlation. Therefore, it never happened. ;)

Here is another article that mentions a wife of Joseph Smith - Martha Knight. It mentions how she was married to Vincent Knight but not Joseph Smith. Maybe this is a different Martha Knight, but I don't think so.

Here is Lucy Walker mentioned on lds.org. Notice it only mentions her marriage to Heber.

Poor Lucy. I feel for her. Well, she made it through the nightmares okay it seems.

This ensign article mentions Jane James' feelings about Joseph Smith here.

Jane revered Joseph as “the finest man I ever saw on earth. … He was a fine, big, noble, beautiful man!” She personally knew his kindness and generosity. The desolation she felt at his death was clearly expressed when she said, “When he was killed, I liked to a died myself.”

She was a friend of a couple sisters (Sarah & Maria) who were married to Joseph Smith but it only mentions the sisters as "members of the household".

I wonder if anyone starts to get suspicious after learning about all these women in Joseph Smith's life?

For a discussion on how Zina (and Henry) have been treated by Church publications, check out this thread at MADB:

Zina Diantha Hunington Jacobs

Also, this one, where the Church actually changed the website!

Wooooooooooooow.

My favorite apologetic comment has got to be the one that claims "widowed" can just mean "seperated."
