Provo Tabernacle Burns

I've been in that building so many times, from my commencement for my bachelor's degree to community programs to stake conferences and other church meeting.

What a terrible loss, both for the church and for the community. We've lost another connection to our pioneer past. I am beyond sad about this.

I'm very, very sorry to hear about this. Image

That is a loss. I liked the architecture of that building. It was quaint.

I almost hope the cause remains inconclusive (unless it was arson), because I would hate for someone to have accidentally started it and have to live with that guilt. A true shame.

A few minutes ago on the news, the fire marshal said that the fire started "up high," probably in the roof, which suggested to him that it was probably electrical or some other cause. The weather is extremely cold, and sometimes that contributes to heaters and wiring and such malfunctioning.

So, no, it doesn't look like any one person set it, intentionally or not.

On the bright side, my wife said, "Aww, it's so cute that you're this sad about it."

Oh no, that's terrible. There are already too few examples of wonderful early Mormon architecture. That building was lovely.

I'm very sad to hear this...

That is a terrible. What a loss of a beautiful building and asset for Provo city.

In the summers, I would drive my motorcycle (Ok, it was only a friggin' scooter) to Juice n Java and go drink it on the lawns of the tabernacle and soak up the beautiful warm sun.

Anyone ever done a Sunday jaunt around Provo? You feel just like Charleton Heston in the "Omega Man".

It is gone, all gone. In its place will surely come a homogenous piece of corporate ****.

Did the stone structure collapse as well?

It's not like they can rebuild it the way it was.

Sad, but this happens to lots of buildings.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
