It seems that PP was offering a comparison-contrast. PP was comparing what the church claims to be (the one true church) and what they do (building shopping malls and high rise condos) and contrasting it to someone who does not claim to have the one truth, nor who is building monuments to capitalism and financial self-preservation.

I think I remember that from the late '80s. I knew a full time janitor who became redundant. He had to find employment elsewhere when the Church began its "corporate streamlining". You know, "economic rationalism" and all that. Jesus suddenly found something "better". You couldn't tell the difference between the Mormon Jesus and Howard Hughes. Both were superb financial managers. Who cares about the poor and destitute in India or Africa? They were "less valiant" anyway. And deserved their lot. Jesus was God's financial broker and money-generator. Money runs the "kingdom of God". Of course.

This person is amazing. Just wow. I'm going to say this trying to sound...not so critical.
I think that there has been a lack of emphasis on helping other people in general. But in the church I always expected more. I wish I could take the money I had spent on tithing and donate it to this person. Or one of many other charitable places. I don't think God would be so prideful to be angry at me for not paying his church in order to feed the hungry.
I hope that not everyone will conclude that posting this and comparing is a form of attack and rather a call to action.

I agree, the man is simply an amazing inspiration and credit to the human race.

I was going to ask why it is that "the bretheren" are ensconced safely in their 26 story high-rise at 50 E. North temple wondering if their Thursday hoagies will be roast beef or turkey, but that wouldn't be fair, because I am safely ensconced in my little world, wondering if my daily hoagie will be roast beef or turkey also.

But then again, I don't take money from others claiming to represent God, Jesus Christ and having "keys" and authority to save human souls either.

Janitors have been cut back for some time with members doing light cleaning. But each ward still had FM staff assigned for more heavy cleaning, ground work and repairs. Recently that was even cut back. Now members do it all and repairs are sub contracted. The church is letting most of the janitors go by early retirements, reassignment or lay offs.

No Ray I was not a janitor.

One wonders if the big mall over run combined with lower tithes due to the bad economy is behind this.

But it bugs me. Members tithe, they give lots of time in callings, they do light cleaning and now get to clean toilets and weed gardens too. And they are told it is a blessing and if have to clean they will take better care of the building. puuuuhlease!

What I find interesting about Narayanan Krishnan is not only does he prepare the food himself, and bring it to people, he personally feeds the weak and cuts their hair and shaves them, "providing extra dignity to those he serves." It's an eloquent and humble gesture and one I can't imagine being performed by, well, you can fill in the blank.
