Jason,
You remind me of the Mormon bishop of the Bellevue 8th Ward who, upon me telling him that my roommate was boffing and having oral sex with many LDS women in the Ward, told me I was a "liar" and "looked like a bum off the street".
Darrick you remind me of many person I have dealt with that have some real issues that they need to get help with but don't and thus live lives of misery. I have been a bishop and I never did anything like what you say this other bishop did. I dealt with many sensitive issues in a caring and concerned way.
Some members of my ward were engaging in behavior the Church considered sinful. I never said once to you that SOME Mormon men and women do not engage in acts you talk about. Some do. All I said is that in my experience which is as valid and likely more extensive than yours given I grew up in Utah and have been in the LDS Church ALL my life, is different than yours. Some do what you say, many do not.
Still today, to Mormon men in Arizona, Travis Alexander was FAR from a hypocrite. To them, he was a HERO! A martyr! One told me I was "not worthy enough to speak his name". Why? Because HE WAS SUCCESSFUL! He was an achiever. He got wealth. He got property. He got Church positions. HE GOT POONTANG (oh boy did he get poontang). Mormon men in Arizona don't think Travis is a hypocrite. He is their hero. He is their martyr.
I have seen some very active and apparently good members do bad things. Big deal. Some do, many do not. They are not all like what you say.
Once again, the Hypocrite is NOT comdemned, but I am--the one who exposes the hypocrisy.
I did not speak to this specific situation. I agree if this young man was lying about what he was doing and showing a different life to the public he was hypocritical. But I do not know, nor do you really, what was in his heart, what he said to God and what he may have been planning to discuss or discuss with his bishop.
Jason...you'll make a typical Mormon bishop. The Mormon Church is FILLED with men like you, which is one reason I HAD TO GET out.
Darrick I was a bishop and I can tell you I was nothing like YOU think the typical bishop is. In fact I think I was a pretty good and caring bishop if I do say so myself.
But I doubt I will ever be a bishop again or hold any other significant leadership given my NOMness these days.
But no Darrick I think there were many other reasons you left the Church. Own up to your own choices rather than dump it all on others.
