Whoa - Radio Station Sell amounts to MORE than Half of them
Re: Whoa - Radio Station Sell amounts to MORE than Half of them
If the President, CEO and CFO of Bonneville is transitioning to Hubbard Broadcasting, does it make the sale much akin to the spin-off of Zion's Bank, in which the President of the Church still presides during the dedication of their branch offices?

Simon Belmont wrote:The Mighty Bigot is clearly posting this information to mock and ridicule the Church. That is why he posts information about "genetically engineered trout" and streams running through City Creek mall and get's all angry about it. What he doesn't realize is that, if it weren't for City Creek and other Church projects, TMB probably would not have a job. It is because the Church is not true, no doubt, that they are selling some radio markets! This is the inference of TMB.
I know The Mighty Builder in real life, Simon. You do not. He is not depending on the vast real estate empire of the Corporation to make a living.
You have failed to explain what "blame" there was, and instead are talking about ridicule. Therefore, your statement about blame must be chalked up as yet another of your vacuous unsupported assertions.
The $14 Trillion in debt is also due to stimulus packages that, as of yet, haven't worked (I wish they had). China is our largest debtor, and if they wanted to they could bankrupt us. Some states are already bankrupt. People don't have jobs, therefore there is less tithing and other donation money coming in to the Church. As well, the Church welfare system is probably being taxed, therefore increasing the financial burden of the Church. So they sold some radio stations... big freaking deal.
China is America's largest creditor, not its largest debtor. And despite Glenn Beck's hysteria, China could not realistically do what you are proposing.
There is not a single state in the United States that is bankrupt, because the United States Bankruptcy Code does not allow for a state to declare bankruptcy.
As far as the Church's resources being taxed, that is what this thread is about. It is unclear why the Church (the church-owned company, I mean) would be selling off these assets unless the money was needed. City Creek is a much bigger drain on the Church than is being publicly acknowledged. It is a big deal when reality creeps in that despite its profligacy in building malls (not just City Creek), trophy temples, etc., the resources of the LDS Church are not infinite. It is a big deal to employees of the Church and businesses owned by the Church. It is a big deal to believing members who now have additional demands put on them---like now they get to clean the chapel for free instead of people who need the work being paid to do it. It is a big deal that the Church's hope for growth is in low-income, and therefore low-tithing, areas like South America and maybe Africa.
The reason that the Church ceased to disclose its finances is to hide the financial problems that the Church was having at the time. It is a common belief in LDS culture that the Church is vastly rich and has an unending supply of cash because the Lord will make Zion prosper forever so the Church can continue to grow. That folksy wishful thinking may be coming to an impasse.
However, by retorting with "everyone is having problems" (a slight variation on your recurring tu quoque theme), thanks for pointing out yet again that there is nothing particularly special about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Does he often fly off the handle about trout? Perhaps he isn't the best choice for a friend, Darth J. I am sure he is one of those conspiracy-theory low-level construction workers at Oakland. But hey, I don't fault the guy for doing the hard work to make ends meet... we've all had to do it at one time or another. That doesn't, however, excuse him from bigotry.

Wrong. Read my post. TMB is blaming the Church for all of the problems he perceives, and this is just another example of this. He blamed it for trout, for City Creek, for outdated cement slabs on the Provo and Ogden Temples, as well as the Church Office Building. He uses these things to prove to himself that the Church is an evil empire (one that pays him).

Not formal bankruptcy, no, but states like California are unable to meet their financial obligations. The economy is in shambles, and we're just beginning to pick up the pieces. Every industry is affected, even the Church's real-estate and media arms. To imagine they are immune is ludicrous.

Its Simple Simon
Matthew 6
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Did you know that the Church Office Building and the Ogden and Provo Temples were built with inferior concrete slabs in the 1960s? That must mean the Church is untrue!

So What?
Yea .. I am sure that is exactly what the old white men err.. bretheren said when they decided to give up media influence in the East.
FYI.. WTOP is the number one radio station in Washington DC with business ties to the Washington Post and ABC. Those relationships produced influence that helped the Church in the past but has now been sold to help finance that will be a 4 billion dollar boon-doggle in SLC.

God has the right to create and to destroy, to make like and to kill. He can delegate this authority if he wishes to. I know that can be scary. Deal with it.

No, you are not sure of that. It is another of your unsupported assertions---that being the only thing besides canned retorts that other people thought of that you have to say. Wait and see if what The Might Builder says will happen with City Creek and other LDS building projects.

Wrong. Read my post.
Read your post to see what someone else said? Yes, this is pretty much the kind of thing everyone has come to expect from you.

Anyway, back to what The Mighty Builder has said about these projects that is not true.......
Whenever you're ready........

Not formal bankruptcy, no,
No, not bankruptcy at all. Bankruptcy is a formal court proceeding.

I agree that Mormons imagine many ludicrous things.

TMB misses many points in his delusional tirades.
"DMC plans to expand the regional and the online presence of the radio stations it is retaining. DMC's websites in its western markets reach more than 7 million combined unique users with more than 250 million combined page views each month.
It's called refocusing. It's just a good ol' business practice.

It is evident that a strong regional component is vital to the success of combined digital and broadcast marketplaces," Willes said. "It makes strategic sense for us to have these western markets continue as part of DMC."
As part of this transition, Jeff Simpson will now oversee the remaining Bonneville markets. Simpson has been with DMC since 2004 and is currently the COO of KSL Broadcasting.
"We have excellent market managers and staff in each Bonneville location and I look forward to working with them to achieve their market goals," said Simpson. "We will maintain our commitment to serve the communities we broadcast in and provide the quality sports, news and entertainment our listeners have come to expect."

Maybe the Church could refocus on being primarily a religion.
Do you think that might happen in your lifetime?
