If one is using LDS.org to search for this or that, I don't find it too odd that an article that old would pop up as a result. It's happened to me.
What do you find so suspicious about it? Have you used the search feature at LDS.org? Did you only get recent Ensign articles as search results? Genuinely curious.
Most people pull their talks from the last two conferences as directed from local authorities, not from something 35 years old.

I see.
Yes, I am now inclined to agree with you. Brooklyn is no question a sock puppet or fraud. Possibly (and likely) both. It's all rather obvious now. Thank you, Called2Serve.

Having been here for only a few months and coming from a point of not knowing anything critical of the church, all I can say is if this small thing is disturbing for your friend, then wait until they find out about the big stuff.
A person is going to either rely on faith or not. If they choose to learn of these disturbing things and you wish to help, then simply be a friend and do what you can to help resolve these things.
You are going to find good and bad answers to your questions here. It might be difficult because some are quite crude and some are not all that smart here. I think that I am preparing myself for upcoming faith shattering experiences which I need to be prepared for.
(You and your friend may be legit people with real concerns, I hope you can find answers to your questions.)

Clearly this was not the site this person was looking for, and since they have not made a reappearance that I can see, he/she has probably moved on.

Is relying on faith a good thing? If yes could you provide specifics as to why. Faith is really just believe followed by action. If ones belief is wrong, would it no be a good thing to not rely on faith?

Priceless.

you choose the wrong website. more particularly the wrong "board" on this website. you should a website that is more LDS friendly and not so full of angst towards the LDS faith.
