If the authoritative stories about Yahweh's acts are false, then so is Yahweh. The only artifacts Yahweh has left us are the scriptures about him. Yahweh's prophets claimed that Yahweh did a great work for specific reasons. This great work never happened. Ergo, Yahweh is fictional.

Next god.

Hey Buffalo,

Not sure what "the most vague terms" means? (Doesn't strike me as vague at all. Either you believe that there is a God/Creator or you do not believe in a God/Creator. Did I miss any other choices?

Either belief, is indeed only a belief and neither can "prove" ones belief (Would you agree?)

Given the two choices, it is my opinion that a belief in God is as plausible and reasonable (Perhaps more so) as the contrary belief is.

Peace,
Ceeboo

We cannot disprove that there is a god of some sort. As soon as we get too specific about the actions and attributes of a god, that god becomes falsifiable.

So, disprove that specific god!

Congratulations - you've just described every apologist's wet dream!

Noah's Flood could have been a local flood. It also could have been a myth. In either case, it is superfluous to Christianity.

The Torah claims that the God of Abraham flooded the earth some 4,000 years ago and killed everything except 8 people and a boatload of animals. Given the fact that this never happened, the god(s) of Abraham are totally mythbusted.

Busted perhaps only for those who accept it as the word of God as opposed to the word of God transmitted by man.

It could have been. But the specific, falsifiable claims of Yahweh's prophets have been proven false, ergo Yahweh himself is false.

Now, let's talk about the god of Christianity - Jesus of Nazareth.

He made this specific claim:

"He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

No one has ever managed to do that. Furthermore, the prayers of the faithful for the sick go unheeded, having a placebo effect when the sick person knows he is being prayed for, and no effect at all when the person being prayed for does not know about the prayers.

All "words of god" are understood by all believers to be transmitted by men.

Still mythbusted.

This is because there are specific claims made about every specific god that are falsifiable, and where claims of the supernatural are falsifiable, they are inevitably falsified.

Certainly that is true of the various gods worshiped by the Abrahamic religions. All of them have been proven to be imaginary.

I was watching Mythbusters the other day and always thought it would be fun if they looked as some stuff from the Bible or if they did some myth busting with the Book of Mormon. That would be a really interesting episode.

They would never do an episode like this, however. It would piss off too many religious people -- bad for business.

Hey again Buffalo,

Wow! As a believer in an Almighty God/Creator, this strikes me as a most guarded and indeed narrow view.

To simply observe the Universe (and all that is contained in it) screams to me of an artist behind the marverlous masterpiece.

A designer, to be certain (IMHO)
