While they are often mindful that the health and dietary counsel is intended for increased quality and capacity in life, they tend not to have grasped that the Word of Wisdom, like baptism, is also intended to act as an outward symbol of inward covenants, commitments, and priorities. It is also an outword symbol of having choosen to be in the world, but not of the world. Thanks, -Wade Englund-
I'm amused at the WoW and it's preaching against alcoholic beverages. Saints, Prophets (even Joe) and Jesus all drank wine or beer.
In ancient times both wine and beer were much safer than water. Especially in villages and towns where sewage often infected water supplies. Alcohol kills the pathogens.
When Jesus drank from his challis at the last supper, was it filled with Kool-Aid?

I enjoy the taste of unsweetened coffee just before oatmeal when it is cold outside. I would rather taste wine with seafood or cheese than root beer or 7-up. I enjoyed the taste of these beers I had last night. Truly, I enjoyed the taste. I also enjoyed the taste that complemented the meat I ate. I probably drank the equivelent of a single glass. It was nice. I didn't know a beer would have such interesting taste yet not smell bad. There was really no smell to these. I fully expected some God-awful smell but there was nothing of the sort. I have never tasted a drink that reminded me of junipers. I never tasted something that used nitrogen instead of CO2 for texture. It is very interesting and different and wonderful.
Sure, I could have ordered more and got drunk. But why?
Why am I feeling like some of the posters on this thread are talking to a child? Is it because their religious authorities treat them like children?

I think so.
According to the NCCAD (The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence... just looked it up) "In an adult population where at least three-fourths are drinkers, about 6 percent of the total group are probably alcoholic."
A pretty low percentage. Those figures are by American standards. European standards have a much higher bar for alcoholism (and thus a much lower percentage).
Short of a six pack of beer a day or a bottle and a half a day of wine day, your just practicing healthy consumption.

Your "feelings" are of your own imagining. As such, you would be better served question why you mistakenly "feel" that way. May I suggest you consider your own insecurities? Such things are often associated with teen-like rebellion and an immature drive for independance rather than interdependance..

Ironic, amusing and painful. All at the same time. Z is trying to go beyond the insecurity's of his childhood instruction. The adolescent point of view is yours.
I'm sorry, I should let Z do his own defending. I just couldn't help noting the hypocrisy.

Zee, it seems that you are behaving like a child. First you are celebrating the fact you drank a beer. Second, you claim that the posters who are critical of you drinking a beer are treating you like a child.
Here is what you should do. Drink your beer...get kick butt drunk...have a hang over....drink another beer to ease the hangover and then buy a six pack for you and your wife.
Then report back to us.

Drinking beer is wholly approved of by God and Joseph Smith, His prophet.
"and barley for all useful animals, and for mild drinks, as also other grain."
Why do you presume to fight against God?

My dear dad used to give me sips of his beer when I was a kid. I enjoyed the taste when I had those sips. I didn't drink alcohol in high school. But my last beer was when I was 18. My uncle bought me a beer when I turned 18 which was the legal drinking back then. I had half a glass. I didn't like it.
However, any Mormon can drink non-alcoholic beer or wine. No problem. One doesn't have to have the buzz in the beer or wine, if it is all about taste.

Any Mormon can drink alcoholic beer or wine too. It's right there in the Word of Wisdom!

The fermentation of sugars in grape juice is what makes wine. It can't be made without going through that process. Removing the alcohol from wine is accomplished by distilling the alcohol out of the wine.
This, of course, degrades the flavor and makes complex wines (the most sought after) generic in taste. A waste of time and a waste of good wine.
