Community of Christ President of Q12 resigns

An interesting story I ran across on a blog this morning:

The Community of Christ announced on May 5 that the President of the Quorum of 12, James Slauter, will resign effective August 1, 2011, in order to be in better position to help his family deal with a serious illness of his 5-year-old grandson...Unlike in the LDS, the Quorum Presidency is not chosen by seniority. Currently the only remaining Quorum officer is the Quorum Secretary, Apostle Linda Booth [who] would be considered a strong possibility to be elected to minimize disruption...

There is not much more on the blog than what I've excerpted here, but maybe others have further information?

So a female prophet may be in the works? Interesting stuff.

My respect for RLDS has just increased.

Have they considered doing missionary work in Utah?

I was told they have a long standing agreement with the Church to not allow any proselytizing in the State of Utah.

They are not RLDS. The restorationists broke away from the COC because of disagreements. At least that is my understanding.

Mormon territorialism among its sects? I have not heard of this agreement before. I suppose the Corporation was too afraid of an unadulterated version of Mormonism being preached in Utah.

No one can limit another faith's attempt to do missionary work in the USA. When I lived in Utah, I had polygamous Mormons attempt to discuss with me why their church was the true church. No problem with polygamous missionaries in Salt Lake.

The same would be true for the COC. Their problem is one of numbers. There are about 250,000 CoC members in the world.
