Nationalism, Immigration and the LDS Church

Post by _moksha »

That we are all Human and brothers is something God gave us. National borders are something we have created on our own. There has been an unstated question before us of which takes precedence.

Arizona and Utah are two states right next to each other that have approached the issue of how to treat illegal immigrants in a different manner. Arizona has adopted a position to deport illegal immigrants where ever they are found. Utah has acknowledged that the illegal immigrants are already here and is offering a legal means by which they too can enjoy the American Dream through the Utah Compact.

The biggest ingredient in the passage of the Utah Compact was the strong support and encouragement of the LDS Church, otherwise Utah would have piggy backed on to the Arizona nationalistic solution of America for Americans.

The LDS Church deserves praise for supporting this immigration policy in Utah.

Agreed! I am curious about their motive, though.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

I'm sure that a decent percentage of illegals in Utah are also members of the church.

If one wants to be cynical about it, earning capacity is greater in Utah than in Mexico for those people, and 10% of greater is more.

The LDS Church has been pro-immigration since the early years. It was pretty much built upon immigration!
