Do Mormon leaders reject famous people from serving missions

Good old Facebook has started another ineteresting conversation with TBM's. My friend mentioned that he saw David Archilita at the temple doing baptisms for the dead. Then he linked a video about what baptisms for the dead is for all his non Mormon Facebook friends. So some girls were asking my friend if he got his autograph or if he sang a song for them.
I then wrote this comment. Will call my friend Joe...
"David Archilita should be asking for your autograph Joe. That boy should be on a mission. What do you girls think of him now. haha Jenn Kamp :)"
Someone responded saying.
" Seriously!!? The one time I can't go! So jealous! by the way he can't go on a mission because he is too well known. His mission is his singing. He spreads the gospel by being a good member of the church, and when people think of David they think Mormon, so its a good thing. :0"
I then asked for a link or is that just a guess.
She then said this.
There is no statement per say from the Church. I do not know David personally, so I can not answer for him. Maybe the correct phrase was to say it would be difficult for him to serve, with his popularity. I asked my mother about Donny Os...mond a ways back and what I had said before is what she said. Here is a link to Donny answering the question" http://www.donny.com/question/missions_ ... the_church
It's not clear if it is local leaders that tell Donny not to go or if it is from the top 15.
Does anyone know if famous Mormons get told not to go on a mission? I would much rather have gotten paid millions of dollars to sing instead of going on a mission!
