Artificial Insemination

Post by _hannahsrock »

Ok, so my husband of 4 years had a vasectomy right under my nose allthewhile pretending to try to concieve. Found evidence he had this done about 2 weeks ago. He has lied to our Bishop, says I knew and consented. I am crushed. I have a child from a previous marriage and really want one more. This is the straw that broke the camel's back; There is much more. In short, I'm going to divorce him. So my question is, I am 39 and don't see myself entering into another marriage and if I did that clock is ticking. So, what will the church do to me if I have A.I. via a sperm donation?

? - Why in the world would you care what the LDS church thinks of your decision? Who cares what some random corporation thinks about your personal decisions? This sounds like an issue between you and your husband, not you and the LDS "church"...Can you afford another child as a single mother? If so, then do what you want...If not, then what the heck are you thinking?

Um, do you mean that he had it "behind your back?" "Under your nose" has the opposite meaning.

He has lied to our Bishop, says I knew and consented.

Why is he talking about this sort of thing with the bishop??

Let's just say there is probably a spirit up there right now hoping you go for A.I..

Also, at 39 you only have a short time to realize your hope. You also have 40 or 50 more years on the planet. If you really want another child, but do not go for it now, you may have decades to regret your decision.

Not strictly true, if the poster gets a divorce she will be a single sister - see below

From the Church Handbook Number 2:
Artificial Insemination
The Church strongly discourages artificial insemination using semen from anyone but the husband. However, this is a personal matter that ultimately must be left to the judgment of the husband and wife. Responsibility for the decision rests solely upon them.

Artificial insemination of single sisters is not approved. Single sisters who deliberately refuse to follow the counsel of Church leaders in this matter are subject to Church discipline.

As a mother of a seven year old who got pregnant at 40, I can tell you that your clock is not exactly "ticking".

Honestly...if you are seriously going through a divorce, I would wait on any type of plans to get pregnant. You need to think about the child that you currently have. Divorce is going to cause huge upheaval in that child's life. Do you really want to complicate that further with another baby? Particularly with the way the economy is..single parent and all?

The Church would frown on a single woman being artificially inseminated, but I don't think you would be ex'd. It likely depends on the bishop. Pregnancy out of wedlock does not automatically equate with excommunication.

I don't understand why the church would be against it. After all, Jesus was the product of A.I..

Course, god shirked his fatherly duties off on Joseph. Maybe the church just doesn’t like it if you don't have a stepdad waiting in the wings.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.
