You know that feeling you have toward the May 21st people?

You know the ones. End of the world on May 21st, 2011 at 6pm. Earthquakes. Fires. Rapture.
You know they're talking irrational nonsense; you know they're blatantly wrong; you know they're brainwashed. You've talked about them to your family and friends and collectively laughed at their silly beliefs.
That's you. That's how we Atheists feel about you. You're irrational, wrong, and brainwashed.
From our perspective the May 21st-ers are no different from true believing Mormons. NO DIFFERENT. You both believe similar things will happen, the same idiotic end times crap will come to pass. The May 21st people just put a date on it, that's it. That's the only distinction. They put a date on it while Mormon Christians claim they can't know.

Funny, I feel the same way about antiMormon critics and atheists. Come, let us break bread together and watch the Super Bowl.

Got it!

Actually, I'm going to a fundraiser at a local winery on the 21st. BBQ, wine tasting, texas hold em, and horseshoes, plus a silent and a live auction. We've gathered together some cool stuff for the auction (king crab from Alaska and steaks from a local butcher; a limo-driven wine tour of local wineries for 5 couples; a Japanese dinner for 8; a Family Fun weekend of passes to an amusement park, passes to a water park, and hotel rooms, a guided fishing trip on the river for the spring run, etc...). Now if the weather just happens as predicted (75* and sunny)...

Yikes. I hope this doesn't disrupt my garage sale.

Only if Nightlion can come too. Oh, and only if we don't watch the Super Bowl. I'll bring a movie. How about "The Invention of Lying?"

The difference here is that the rationalists base their view of the world on credible evidence and fact while the religionists base their view of the world on myth and unfounded belief.
All worldviews are not equal. Some are mainly right and some are profoundly wrong. The way to choose the best among them is to determine which ones are based on evidence and fact, provide predictive power, and can be otherwise successfully tested and relied upon.
Mormonism is certainly not among the latter.

Will we have to record the Super Bowl so that we can watch it on Monday? We wouldn't want to break the Sabbath. Oh yeah, Monday's Family Home Evening. Maybe Tuesday?

You didn't mention if that's Eastern or Pacific time. If it's Pacific, I get an extra three hours to practice hedonistic debauchery. You know, drinking Starbucks coffee and a few glasses of a good Cab.
I'd hate the world to end in mid sip.
