Betty Eadie and Paranoid Boyd
Betty Eadie had a near death experience and was finally persuaded by friends and family to write about it. She did and her book became a best seller. She says it was her experience, that it happened to her.
Why does boyd packer of l-dsince apostleship say the experience she tells about is "bunk" and 'can't have happened'? I have read this quoted in a number of places, but... did it really happen? Did he really say it? Is it on record somewhere in an 'official' l-dsinc publication?
If not, why doesn't' l-dsinc embrace her experience and have her speaking at firesides and such rather than the recovering porn addict heroes of the moment?

A female? Speak at a fireside about something that might actually have something to do with something the Brethren really know nothing about?
R-i-i-ight.
R-i-i-ight.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

CFR: who said it was "bunk?"
Oh, that's right, I'm replying to an inbred dumbass. I predict you won't answer.

Y'know Harmony, if male Church leaders were as completely dismissive of women as you are of men, they'd be complete misogynists.
But perhaps there's a qualifier here. Does your total disdain extend to all men everywhere, or is it reserved for the leaders you so completely despise, of the Church you so utterly detest?
Here's a suggestion you might try. I know it's a huge stretch, and may well turn out to be entirely beyond you, but try to imagine the possibility that people have read her book and been unimpressed, not because the author was female, but because of what it actually says.
Is there any possible universe in which you could consider that as an actual possibility?
Regards,
Pahoran

The best I could find was this, which mentions Peggy Stack attributing to "a witness" that Packer called the Eadie book "bunk." That article's footnotes lists as its reference an article by Stack called, "Mormon's Book on Afterlife Gains National Response," but I wasn't able to find this online.

I think that is what he was asking..
Her accounts haven't always seemed totally consistent to me, and it seems they change according to who her audience is - can't blame her though, maybe that's what the afterlife is all about. I'm not sure, but I think there was even a separate edition of EBTL intended solely for LDS.
I can understand if Packer isn't interested though; her messages generally seem more focused on love & peace, and less with follow the prophet.

Honesty compels me to admit that, when I read the book as a believing Mormon, I noticed several aspects of her narrative that contradicted LDS doctrine.
Perhaps that's the reason why Elder Packer wasn't enthusiastic about the book (assuming the account is true).
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

Sounds remarkably like the First Vision.

No wonder Pahoran isn't supportive of her.

strange that the NDE is consistently universalist in nature and does not point to a certain religion. No wonder Packer dislikes Eadies account.

As I posted slimey, I have read of Packers statement. Don't have it on tape or a letter from him, nor even a letter from a deniable clerk or secretary. Just found it on google - your favorite repository of all truth.
Seems tubbytommie and the fat cats ignore eadie just like john the beloved and the three nephites. What is wrong with these guys that they don't want to hear the spiritual experiences of those who have actually had them?
