Aaronic Order in Utah

Post by _Joseph »

A small settlement in Eskdale, Utah and a branch in Partoun, Utah and a nice chapel building in West Jordan, Utah are the locations of the Aaronic Order.
They believe in many things similar to l-dsinc but claim authority independent of the group and do not consider themselves an l-dsinc offshoot.

The founder was l-ds for a bit and then tossed out.

Anyone familiar with these folks?

Never heard of them before your post. Wikipedia offers the following:

I read the wikipedia information as well as some other articles.

Having been there and attended some services in Eskdale and W. Jordan both and knowing some of their people I can say those I met are very nice people. Long term friendship with some showed me they were honest and hard working and trustworthy.

Their West Jordan chapel site had to be purchased through a friend who was a l-dsinc member as the property owner(l-dsinc bishop) would not sell to them. So the l-dsinc member bought it and re-sold it to them. The bishop was not a happy man and made it plain for years in harassment and meanness to the members and leaders of the small order there.

Just interested in finding out if anyone has more information on them.

not to long ago when I was in the midst of my studies of religious diffusion, specifically Mormonism I came across and interesting group going by the name of The Church of the Father. They considered themselves to be the parent church of the LDS church. The folks were all former LDS and were all pretty far gone. It was actually quite disturbing.

That was some fascinating reading.

Thanks, Joseph, for mentioning this interesting sect.

I'm currently doing a research project on the Aaronic Order and their founder, Maurice Glendenning, after I found a number of letters written in the 1940s-1950s by a distant cousin who had converted to the sect. The letters contain some interesting insights into Glendenning and have some anecdotes that, as far as I know, aren't reported anywhere else.

That's really interesting. Are you sharing this on your blog or any other place I could read it? I just have a general interest; I'm not working on anything similar...

I've been meaning to post some of it on my blog for a while now but I've been distracted by other projects. Eventually I hope to turn this into my undergrad capstone paper, but we'll see what happens. I don't want to spend a lot more time than I already have on it unless it's going to be publishable and there's not a lot of interest in the Aaronic Order, even in Mormon studies.

I have a ton of primary source material that I hope to make available online at some point this summer though, including my (now deceased) cousin's letters, private letters of Glendenning (the group's prophet), Glendenning's published and unpublished revelations, and some of the group's tracts and pamphlets.

Please keep us up to date or drop me a pm. I'd love to look at this material.
