If the church is not true, would you want to know?

Listen to the beginning of this report where a CNN report talks with one of the Xtians who believed the world would end on the 21st of May:

Mormons are just like that guy being interviewed.

Ask a Mormon, "If the church is not true, would you want to know?" and chances are they will not give you a straight yes or no.

I wouldn't have answered that question. But the answer would have been no, I didn't want to know.

In my experience the Mormons who would answer 'yes, I'd like to know' either already know or at least strongly suspect.

Why do you believe the Church is true? I would like to "save your soul" by converting you to agnosticism.

Then read this:

Regarding the OP, I've read many posts by Mormons who state outright that there isn't any evidence that can sway them from their testimony. Enuma has stated that he would believe a translation of the Kinderhook plates done by Joseph Smith knowing they were a hoax. That pretty much sums up the commitment to belief... it's true even if it's known to be untrue.

Then one must accept that they might be wrong and then search, ponder and pray. Or as ETB said, Beware of Pride.

In what ways can the truthfulness of the church be tested? Assuming the church's truth claims are falsifiable, how would we test it?

Good question.

Mormons gain their belief via a subjective experience.

Exmormons lose their belief via objective facts.

I agree PP. However, there are some subjective feelings for me as well. For example, I have prayed and received the same subjective answers I got all my life as a TBM. These are the experiments I ran:

1. Pray to nothing
2. Pray to Athena
3. Read the Odyssey
4. Read Book of Abraham chapter 4-5 about the Mormon pantheon
5. Ponder paganism

All produced similar, yet powerful results
