Would you take a big pay cut to move to Utah?

I am not sure where my beliefs are in terms of Mormonism. Likely more on the outside than anything. Anyways, I do pretty well here in DC but my wife would love to be around her family again, I have brother in the general area, and I got to say that I thought Utah was a great place to live so I am beginning the job hunt. From what I can see, I will take a BIG pay cut to relocate. Would anyone else consider taking a pay cut to live in what the homesick missionaries call Zion?
Is there a strong argument against living in Utah?
I am from the east but lived in Utah for a brief period. One of my grad schools was out west and I have found myself liking the west more than the east. I am traitor to the east much like Haglid and Bokovoy are to Schyaviersrer.

Not in a million years, but that's me. Would I move to Utah for a huge pay increase? Probably.
I live in a place right now that is full of religious folks. We calculated the ratio of people in this area to churches, and there's a church here for every 55 people. Obviously, I don't care. My career/employment makes working here worth it.
So, I guess what I'm saying is that the population of religious people doesn't make a difference to me. It may to you, but there are several other factors you should consider for that move that I believe are far more significant (what your immediate family thinks, how big the pay cut is, the schools available to your kids, etc etc).

If you don't mind me asking where is your general location right now?
My family is scattered and technically on my side there are between 4-6 Mormons in the history of our lineage so most live in major cities in the east and have no desire for the west. In fact, they look down upon the west and would consider me crazy for even considering perm. relocation.
The pay cut is pretty significant.

Before you make such a serious decision, please ask yourself if you would feel okay about your family living next door to someone like this:

Let's just say I live in the Bible belt... I think I can feel the buckle poking into my back.
I was referring more to your wife and kids when I mentioned considering what your immediate family thought of the move.

A joke among the male youth in my stake was "Never marry a girl from Utah, because you will never get her away from her mother."
Not only will you take a pay, you will be face with a overpriced housing market.
As I recall you had issues with a Priesthood leader about your hair style in DC. If I assume correctly you are African American, You would be a "novelty" in Utah as most have probably never met someone who is non-white or hispanic.
I think you need to ask yourself if a pay plus everything else is worth it.

I would move to Utah but not with a pay cut. Utah is more expensive than where I live now, near Oklahoma City. With a cost of living increase I would happily move my lab to the UofU. The crazy religious culture is about the same here as there, just a different flavor.
Plus, the mountains would be nice to have over us, to protect us from tornadoes.

MAYBE park city but even that would suck....I grew up in DC, went to BYU and couldn't get out of utah fast enough...I loved the mountains and the proximity to outdoor activities but, right now, I live in a place that I can surf, mountain bike and ski in the same day if I want and I am never leaving...Look at colorado...You can be closer to her family without having to live in utah which, for me, would be pure hell as I did not enjoy living there...

I think you might have me mixed up with someone else. Technically I do not have a hair cut because my head is shaved. Also, I am of Irish/Swedish Lineage. BUT, I do like the line about marrying a girl from Utah...As for the housing market, that thing is going to burst like a balloon. It is already sinking fast.
