Sorry believers - no immortality for you
At best, you'll live to the age of a tree.
Isaiah 65: 17, 20-22
Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth.
Never again will one of her (Jerusalem’s) infants live just a few days
or an old man die before his time.
Indeed, no one will die before the age of one hundred,
anyone who fails to reach the age of one hundred will be considered cursed.
They will build houses and live in them;
they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
No longer will they build a house only to have another live in it,
or plant a vineyard only to have another eat its fruit,
for my people will live as long as trees,
and my chosen ones will enjoy to the fullest what they have produced.
This is what God has in store for you - a slightly increased lifespan. Of course, it looks like science is doing all the heavy lifting. Anyway, enjoy your new heavens and new earth!

Okay, you do realize that LDS (and many other Christian faiths) say this is about the Millenium right? Mortals living on earth who when they die will be taken straight to eternal life? Ring any bells or did you sleep through Sunday School your whole life?
A post with ignorance worthy of Joseph. You're slipping.

Sorry, there's nothing about eternal life in there. After you live to the age of a tree, you're dead. That's the author's perfect world. Sounds nice. It's almost like life in the 21st century. Oh, and guess what - God didn't play any role in bringing it about.

Yes, because if every scripture doesn't explicitly mention eternal life then they obviously deny it. If baptismal passages don't discuss tithing then obviously tithin is false.
After you live to the age of a tree, you're dead.
And? What makes you think this author thought death was the end?
That's the author's perfect world.
???????
Sounds nice. It's almost like life in the 21st century.
First of all most people in the 21st century do not live over the age of a hundred. Read the rest of the chapter and explain how all that has also happened and is now true in the 21st century.
Oh, and guess what - God didn't play any role in bringing it about.
So your argument is that we don't fulfill this chapter of Isaiah and our lack of fulfillment is great because God didn't bring it about?
Yep, worthy of Joseph.

Isaiah (or in this case, the person writing under the name of Isaiah) is writing about the new heaven and the new earth. Yahweh's Utopia. And in this Utopia, people live a long time. More than a hundred years old! And their kids don't die in childbirth all the time. Sounds great!
But there's nothing there about being changed in the twinkling of an eye. No, you live a good long life, and then you die. That was the limit of the author's imagination.
Given the short human life span at the time and the number of babies dying to childhood illness, it must have sounded like paradise to him.
Science has greatly increased the human lifespan and greatly reduced infant mortality. So yes, it's science that is realizing "Isaiah's" dream for him.
Face it, Nehor. According to this particular prophet's view of things, paradise isn't all that much different from modern life.

Indeed.

Yes, because you can tell with absolute certainty a writer's beliefs if they don't mention something. For example you have never publicly stated a position on child pornograghy you disgusting pervert.

Yes, that and other things. Read the rest of the chapter and the surrounding chapters too.

One small element a segment of the world's population have gotten closer to. Read the rest.

Except modern life hasn't achieved even the verses you've quoted and is unlikely to ever promise the rest of the things he talked about in this discourse. Try reading it and you won't humiliate yourself so badly next time.

Nehor, instead of bluster, why don't you offer counter arguments?
What else are you impressed by here? That lions and lambs will lie down together? That's great, but who is going to protect the grass from violence?
Oh, and Yahweh promises to starve the people who don't listen to him.
All of this is very earth-bound fantasy. This guy didn't have much of an imagination.

I did. We haven't achieved the writer's paradise. We've made small progress towards one element of it but haven't achieved it. So you are wrong.
What else are you impressed by here? That lions and lambs will lie down together? That's great, but who is going to protect the grass from violence?
Why does the grass need protection? Is this just a derail?
Oh, and Yahweh promises to starve the people who don't listen to him.
Yep.
All of this is very earth-bound fantasy.
Yes he did.
Protip: That's because it takes place on earth. :)
This guy didn't have much of an imagination.
Utopia where there is food for all and virtually no evil and the natural order is uprooted and changed to end violence is unimaginative to you?

It's very unimaginative compared to the fantasies of Daniel and John the revelator.
So let's recap this paradise described by the person claiming to be Isaiah:
People live for more than 100 years, and then they die
Infant mortality goes down
Private property rights
Unbelievers are starved
No more mutton
Perhaps the last two points are related.
Still, this doesn't bear much resemblance to later Christian and Mormon fantasies. And of this list, only the first three are worthwhile - and it's science that is taking us there, not religion.

I disagree. And since I think it is real I don't particularly imaginative it is.

You missed the most important bits. The parts about the kind of people that will live there. The society, that kind of thing.
If you summarized Genesis it would probably go something like:
Snake chats with woman.
People eat some delicious fruit.
A sword somehow blocks off the entire garden.
Perhaps the last two points are related.
Except that the description for how the unbelievers don't eat doesn't match up at all. Hooray for lazy thinking!
[/quote]Still, this doesn't bear much resemblance to later Christian and Mormon fantasies. And of this list, only the first three are worthwhile - and it's science that is taking us there, not religion.
Ah, the wonderful Victorian ideal. We are progressing right now in one area. Therefore in the future we will progress. This progress will eradicate more and more human problems like all previous progress did (dubious).
Conclusion: Science will create a utopia.
Right. Sure.
